.

Do you think Caulker is good enough to be first choice now?

Its a squad game. Playimng Pl, domestic cups and EL we'll be playing close to 60 games.

So plenty of games for all, assuming an injury or 2 amongst our CB's

He said he wanted to be a starter - but that was isn a year where he coulde ghet to the WC. Not sure its quite so critical this coming season. IMO he'll want to leave Cardiff so where does he want to go, another struggling team ?

I can see Vertonghen and Chirches staying. Think it will be time to take a fee for 30 year old Dawson, and IMO Caulker would be a great replacement. Its then a question what we do with Kaboul - stay or replace.

Is Caulker an instant upgrade on Dawson - not by a huige anmount immediately but he may become so.

Will some of the others you mention be able to immediately adopt to the speed and physicality of the PL, maybe but there may be an aclimatisation phase which Caulker would not need. And given that we still need some /most of last season's 7 avcquisitions to be integrated, that's a big plus.

If he is happy as 3rd/4th choice he would be a good signing, however, he left for first team football and I don't think that was just because it was a WC year and even if it was, I don't think he would go from being captain and starting every game to being 3rd choice. I think there are plenty of team in mid table that would go for him.

The only reason people wanted this guy back is because he's from our academy. He's bang average and the fact he's going to end up at qpr has proven that.

I was annoyed when we sold him as I thought him and Verty would form a brilliant CB pairing.

After watching him at Cardiff I was disappointed at his progression. Looked average all season.

He is only 22 though so probably a bit young to write off just yet.

He's still young and defenders get better with age.

Poch used to be a defender and hopefully he could improve Caulker.

Plus he gets goals at set pieces which is something we lack massively.

I think it's no coincidence that we are poor defensively when it seems we've not had defensive coaches in any capacity.

Hopefully Poch can rectify that and organise us.

If Lovren is £25m it's too much.

I'd rather we bought Caulker £4m after 50% buy back, Lascelles or Richards £5m-£6m and Moreno £8m.

Essentially giving us an experienced leader in Moreno and 2 players who can improve & be brought on alongside Chiriches.

Much better value and more upside re: potential etc.

Greg Stobart on Twitter last night - not sure i've copied it at all well, but you'll get the idea that Caulker would never have been strongle considered, as some have suggested on here before, because of Joe Lewis:

Greg Stobart: Not sure Steven Caulker to QPR (and back in London) is a good move. Needs to improve his professionalism/lifestyle to fulfil potential #QPR

Callum Haymes‏@CallumHaymes19h @gstobart Interesting. Goes some way to explaining why Spurs let him go in the first place. I was baffled at the time.

Lol at Harry bidding for him - he really is becoming boring and unimaginative when it comes to identifying players.

Dunno mate, a partnership of Caulker and Rio Ferdinand is pretty damn good for a Club like QPR.

Rio's age and Caulker's mobility mean they'll have to play so deep or they'll get turned again and again..
Yep, that partnership has its weaknesses for sure, but its strengths will probably keep them in the Prem (if they strengthen elsewhare too of course) and that is probably all they're targeting right now.

Sky Sports: We are hearing Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker. Queens Park Rangers have also been chasing Caulker, but it appears Palace are now in pole position to land the former Tottenham man as they look to bring him to Selhurst Park.

But that doesn't change the fact that we need club trained players in Europe.

The fact that he apparently left for 'non football reasons' pretty much rules us out. I had high hopes for him myself but watching him a couple of times for Cardiff last season did make me wonder about his concentration levels and application.
