Modric, Gomes and Dos Santos so far.
The bulk of our 1st team is still prett much the same and the problems look like they may pursist.

We're weak across the middle when out of posession and nothing has changed yet to rectify that.

We're still lacking strong centreback cover with King a total liability.

We still lack strong wide players (No don't count Dos Santos, he's still developing)

We don't have potential for consistant goal from midfield. (Modric still to prove his ability in a top league and can't be souley gambled on)

Saying that, Gomes signals a strong intent to clean up stupid mistakes that Robbo repeated over and over - so all's not so glum.

Lacking in wide players?...

with Lennon and dos Santos alone we have to quick skillful players, couple that with malbranques work ethic and awareness and the fact that modric (i don't actually no how you can discount him just because he hasn't played in a top league.... he was in the euro championships team of the year ffs) can play anywhere along midfield, in the winger category were not too bad as it stands, plus jj can be used at right midfield, Bale and Gilberto are both capable of playing LM. I mean I'm not going to say its our strongest area, but i think as far as depth goes were doing pretty well.

As for constant goal threats from midfield, id like to think that modric and dos-santos will be chipping in with a few, plus you never no JJ may actually score a few more this coming term... Even though its pretty irreilvent if your forward line consists of Berbatov and Keane, i mean h'm aware there not certainty's to be here next season but as it stands they are and if it does stay this way id put money on them scoring more goals this season with our extra creative outlets.

I will agree that we really do need a midfield hard man, who will battle and get his hands dirty in the middle of the park, but i don't think I'm being overly optimistic when i say i suspect Levy and co have a few targets in mind.

Id say (at my own risk of being bashed) that dawson/kaboul aren't bad 3rd and 4th choice CB's people have a very short memory when it comes to Dawson. Just remember season before last... hes was brilliant, and you dont just become shit over the summer I'm afraid. I fear that if a new CB does arrive it will signal the end for dawson or kaboul, I suspect the latter, which would be a shame, as i believe there is a fair bit of potential waiting to be achieved in the French U21 captain .

I just think that you need to look at the positive side, because you would be lying to say the singings of Gomez, Modric and Dos Santos haven't strengthened us.

Mate...

You're crackers.
Your glumness is amusing.
As for the 'no potential for consistent goals from midfield', meet back here in May 2009 and let's re-visit that one...

Cheer up son, it might not happen!!!!

There are some valid points in that. We have attempted to address a couple of issues we had, but will they turn out to be the solution? Only time will tell.

Still need that midfield leader t complete everything, and I think how good that player is could be key to everything

I have made my reservations clear regarding Gomes too. Is it a case of frying pan and fire?

I laugh at anyone who thinks Dos Santos will have an impact. He's a young player in a new country who has everything to prove. It's like when Arsenal first signed Fabregas. It takes time.

He may take awhile, but every player is diffrent and every team will get a differend reaction to a play who goes to them. He may well take a season to settle in, he may take a month or two, cant baise an oppinion on how long he will take on Fabregas, lets just see what he can do on the pitch!

I'm not sure why you think we need to repair anything. Improve perhaps not repair.

It's crazy though to talk of a team that will have 4 new first team regulars (including Bale) as one that is almost the same. I think part of the problem is we always make so many changes people think it's normal to do so. How many first teamers joined ManU last season? I can only think of Hargreaves, or was that the season before?

I think we've forgotten how good our squad actually is. We came 5th only the season before last and without doubt still easily have the 5th best squad. The trouble was last jan/summer we didn't really improve the 1st team at all. How did Rocha, KPB, Kaboul or Bent improve our 1st team? We started the season with only one player that would strengthen our first XI and he (Bale) was injured. All the clubs around us improved their teams. However since then we've bought Woodgate, Hutton, Modric and Gomes. These are 4 players who should dramatically improve our 1st team. In fact if you look at which side has improved their 1st team more than any other since the start of last season to now, it is us by miles. We are easily the 5th strongest. Everton don't even come close to matching us. We will also likley add to what we have with Bentley, a CB and DM. If we keep Keane and Berba we may well start the season with a stronger squad than Arsenal.

We should have spent more wisely in jan/summer 2007. I think the by far the biggest impact Ramos has had, is not on the coaching, but on transfer policy and convincing the board that they had been poorly advised and we were in fact not good enough to challenge the top 4. We finished 8 pts behind the 4th placed sides in 2006/7, yet over the summer they imporved their 1st team options and we didn't. Yet somehow we expected that gap to close. In the time we brought in Rocha, Bent and Bale etc, Liverpool brought in Mascherano, Agger, Babel, Torres and Arbeloa. How are you suppossed to close an already big gap, when the team infornt of you is bringing inplayers of that quality and we are signings the players we did? I think Ramos's squad assesment was a real wake up call for the board.

Giovani will make an instant impact much like Lennon did, but the big test will be how consistent he will be over the long stretch, as that is where Lennon falls.

I can see unless we bring in Bentley or Capel, Bale and Jenas will play out wide, with Lennon and Giovani as impact players.

There was a thread here a couple of days ago that was almost exactly the same as this.

It's July 6th. The window closes at end of August. Other signings will be made, problems will be solved, things will be repaired. Take a chill pill.

mate thats spot on..:stupid:
Zokora doesnt always cut it as the DM..we've the hudd as a rising star in my book and modric can play all over midfield..and with much more service in the pint sized croatian..if berbatov and or keane are still around- we'll be fine!
