I laugh at anyone who thinks Dos Santos will have an impact. He's a young player in a new country who has everything to prove. It's like when Arsenal first signed Fabregas. It takes time.

of course he'll have an impact! :eek:mg:

fibreglass was 16 and only playing in the barca youth team when he moved to arse, dos santos is 3 yrs older and made 30 odd appearances for the barca 1st team last season. completely different situation (you should be comparing fibreglass to bostock by your thinking)

Id think dos santos will make a similar or slightly greater impact than lennon in his first season, and i cant bloody wait for it!

OP saying Dos Santos is too young to make an impact and he won't get a game?

The same guy who played in 38 games for Barcelona last year as an 18 year old?

We have a manager who many regard as world class (the best Spurs could ever hope for in their current position, this was seriously a massive appointment by Levy and was worth all the controversy it took to get him.)

We also have an incredibly strong side and are legitimately one signing away from seriously challenging for fourth and even third.

This isn't a false hope like in the past summers when we'd sign Zokora or Tainio or Sean Davis and think that it's finally gonna be "our year". Compare this squad to what we had five years ago. You remember, when we all thought Mabizela, Rohan Ricketts, and John Jackson were the future. Just think that Gomes, Bale, King, Woodgate, Hutton, Dos Santos, Modric, Keane, and Berbatov would all easily fit into a top four squad and the majority would be in the starting eleven. That's already nine players.

We're close.

Any y'know what Rabbi?
I laugh at people who only go by statistics, age and some tenuous links to tenuously-half similar situations.

IF you don' think the guy will make a splash, wonderful. But why laugh at people who think he will?

If everyone thought like you mate, there'd be little point in taking a punt, or even investing in the idea of taking one.

For the record, the situational differences between Fabregas and Dos Santos are enormous. Your only real link there is Barca. Everything else about the deals and players is different.

IF you wanted to make a claim, you'd have compared Vela and Dos Santos, but the fact remains mate that for his age, Dos Santos has experience, know-how, awareness and appetite...

I'll put my head on the block and say that he will absolutely be a huge success next season but we will also need to indulge him/be patient from time to time...

If we keep Berba then we are about 3 players short of a being a serious challenger for 4th.

Namely CB, DM and possibly a wide man (Bentley?)

That's fewer players than we required last summer, so some steady progress has been made and Ramos hasn't even been here a year.

Hoping we get some more good business done in the coming weeks and Berba stays put!

only ronaldo was consistently good all season last time out. there wasn t another striker/winger close to him, lennon was only as consistent as keane or berbatov, elano, fabregash, petrov adebayor, everyones form dips!

Personally I think we still need a DM and CD, because King and Woodgate won't last the whole season. However the window is open for nearly two months and I expect a few more players in between now and August 31st to cover those positions.

Instead of a DM I'd rather a CM leader. Like Appiah. It'll not happen but a person with his leadrship qualities would be awesome.

A CB? I think Kaboul will have matured a bit and hopefully alongside a player like King or Woody will only get better. Dawson must go.

If we are to get a wide player I hope it is Capel and not Bento.

at the moment you have to optomistically see it as:

Modric, dos santos, Gomes, king and Bale... AND compared to the start of last season add also Hutton and Woodgate. I would argue 6 of those players are in positions that can and have solved recent problems??!?

We have not bought a DCM but we don't know how having King and Woody and Gomes may affect the role or how Bale and Huttons work may alter and improve the wingers space and time on the ball which may force teams to spread out to stop us, affecting the CM role for us. Or how modric's ability to receive the ball in tight areas and keep possestion will give the oppsostion less of the ball over the 90mins affecting the CM role for us.

The signings and returning players are of a high enough standard so far to have a positive out look on problems being solved.

Its still too early for this in my mind. We've signed more players then anyone else. We've already got more creativity now in midfield with Giovani and Modric. We've got a top class keeper aswell. At least wait until the pre-season friendlies start at the end of the month. Who's to say we wont have Capel and Bentley by the end of month. In fact we could probably solve all these positions in a week if we wanted, but we're taking our time to pick the right players.

Rabbi..fabregas had done bugger-all before arsenal..and dos santos has a lot more of a chance settling in coming from the spanish league than serie A for example!

Yep good point about DCM. The more we dominate possession of the ball the more the opposition sit back, they then leave a larger gap between the srikers and the midfielders, thus making it easier for us to defend.

Manu use Hargeaves, someone who quick to pick up on the loose ball, we have zok/Jen can do that job due their mobilty. If we need someone to keep possession,Thudd can do this and hopefully will improve upon his displays last season.

Modric is a key signing for us, a little bit of fabregas/Hleb/scholes is exactly what we needed. Hopefully if he settles he can bind the midfield and strikers together...

Here here.

We've got no chance if we are relying on Leds, Daws and Kaboul.

Modric alone is not enough to improve the midfield.

Hopefully.. we ARE still working on new players will real intent.

Modric, Gomes and Dos Santos so far.
The bulk of our 1st team is still prett much the same and the problems look like they may pursist.

We're weak across the middle when out of posession and nothing has changed yet to rectify that.

We're still lacking strong centreback cover with King a total liability.

We still lack strong wide players (No don't count Dos Santos, he's still developing)

We don't have potential for consistant goal from midfield. (Modric still to prove his ability in a top league and can't be souley gambled on)

Saying that, Gomes signals a strong intent to clean up stupid mistakes that Robbo repeated over and over - so all's not so glum.

I'm glad that people are sticking up for Kaboul, I think he could suprise a few people this season and really step forward. Yes Dawson had a disappointing season last year but he's still young and can do a job for us as backup for Woody and King.

Go all out for a top DM and I think we'll do great anything else is a bonus.

The third centre back will play a lot of games (maybe all season in fact) and neither Daws nor Kaboul are top 4 material.

why? have you not seen the pictures of a fit King trainig and kicking a ball about

One other point, if our back up players were top 4 status, then they wouldnt be wanting to be 3rd or 4th choice players and want to move, i dont understand how people cant seriously think we should be able to have world class players being happy to sit on the bench for most a season, or a fair chunk of it

I think Kaboul could turn out to be a class player if given more time. Dont forget he was thrown into the first team and had to play the leading CB role, and all the heat he got is unfair imo. If Kaboul got to play along side Woody or King and lead properly on the field he could go far. And we all know Dawson was immense together with King the year before. He just need a leader beside him.

No sorry my friend, Daws has never been "immense" and we can't wait for Kaboul to prove himself (plus he looks gormless so he probably is).

No point spending the money we have if we don't fix other positions....we are as strong as our weakest squad player.

so who do you think we should get for 3rd choice CB then? someone that will be happy being understuddy just now and sit about the bench untill they get a chance through injury or suspensions?
