I think we could sign a good quality centre back from a smaller team like Diaz from Getafe. Maybe Nelson Cabrera would be an improvement, and coming from a small team in a small league, would be delighted with a big move to Spurs. Or possibly another Naybet, someone who is at the back end of their career, just to fill the gap while TAH and Dervitte come through.

in the modern game there is no such thing as a 3rd choice....any 2 of 3 will get plenty of games.

4th choice is a bit different.

That might be the case yes but as long as King and Woody are fit they are the first two choices. King (and Woody) might be rested alot but that will mainly be against the lesser good teams or lesser important games. If possible King and Woody will play all important games so our "third" CB would need to be happy enough not playing a part in those games.

Whats the point, are they better, will they settle? I think we either stick with what we have got and hope King plays more games to take the pressure off Dawson/Kaboul/Dervitte/TAH or we buy someone who is good enough to really challenge King/Woodgates position. Dunne although not a real tottenham glamour signing is a good premiership cb with leadership skills and good experience who would have settled you would think quite quickly and would have challenged Woodgate/King. But since he won't be coming, I can't see anyone else in the prem who we could attract that fits the experienced/leadership/quality bill.

I think its difficult to expect a foreign player to display good leadership qualities and have good experience while settling quickly, thus to me represents a gamble that is maybe no better than what we already have with Kaboul. And maybe one year on Kaboul will bring more to the team now.

I would actually be happy for us to keep Kaboul, but its not going to happen, which is why we need a new CB. Kaboul is determined to join Portsmouth. Dunne would have been great but its now off. Maybe Ben Haaim? He's fallen out of favour at Chelsea and is experienced and settled in the Premier League. Otherwise we'll have to go abroad. At least with Dawson, we have a good capable backup for King and Woodgate, which would give a new CB time to adapt and settle in.

kaboul will be quality i have no doubts bout that next year the year after wateva he'll develop people on here expect to much, dawson maybee. maybee not turn out to be quality he's shown that he can win a header and make a nice tackle but really needs to improve his distrabution.

as for the transfers subject i feel anyone who thinks we havnt made a drematic improvement to the squad over the last 2/3 years is a twit..
modric yeh seems great just wat the doctor ordered im about 90 percent sure he'll be a success.
dos santos definetly in years to come! but this year yehh im about 75 percent sure he'll have some sort of possitive impact (maybee im just hoping ;)
gomes will be quality end of!
bale n king in that makes a dramatic improvement! to any squad!

The other day i was looking at our Team that we put out at the start of last season and i forgot how poor that team was.I mean we had Kaboul and Stalteri playing in the back 4.

But as i look forward i feel with the imminent arrival of Gomes, and a fully fit King and Bale, along with Woody and Hutton at the back i'm confident that we will be more resiliant and stronger in defence next season.

The issue of captaincy has to be decided .

Keane is too far up the pitch , King and Woodgate are fragile , Modric is the obvious choice .

Need a backup keeper .

I'm a little disappointed that none of the ones for the future bought over the last 3 years have made it . Not sure whether it is a failure of the coaching staff or the buying policy .

If we keep Berba then we are about 3 players short of a being a serious challenger for 4th.

Namely CB, DM and possibly a wide man (Bentley?)

That's fewer players than we required last summer, so some steady progress has been made and Ramos hasn't even been here a year.

Hoping we get some more good business done in the coming weeks and Berba stays put!

My thoughts exactly.

A CB, a good one is needed, although its always difficult as we do not offer CL football and are not seen as one of the big clubs (probably because we are not anymore).

DM - key really, no coincidence that since Carrick elft, we started letting in goals from all over. A decent DM would be amazing.

Winger - Bentley seems to be on his way, would be seriously happy with that deal.

With all of those, that is progression in the right direction.

We have the new goalkeeper who I hope does perform to a decent level. We have the defence, bar an extra mans cover, we have the wingers, we have jenas who can run all day, and does perform (think how good he could be with players like Modric around him) and we have the forwards.

We have the makes of a squad that could seriously challenge for all honours.

If King is fit then he is the obvious No.1,but if he isn't then Keano is next in line, then Woody.
