I guess that one of the positives of having video refs in sport is that it reducing the benefit of conning the ref in real time by cheating (diving etc).

On a slight tangent, I was a bit surprised watching the Rugby World Cup recently, the amount of players kicking the ball and then deliberately running into a player to try and draw a decision. It's a slippery slope and not one that is completely confined to football

If you have ever tried to play as a back in a rugby match you would realise that all too often people are happy to make it seem as though they are innocently standing in your way when you chip the ball, when in fact they are deliberately obstructing you. Anyway, it is no where near the same ball park as diving and rolling round like you have been shot.

On the point about Suarez, it is very difficult to prove that someone has called you something racist during a football match. Yes if there is direct proof that he did indeed cal Evra something he should be banned, but Evra does seem to have previous in alledging he has been racially abused by playersm when no other black player on the pitch has been abused themselves.

That doesn't really mean anything.

No but he has claimed it several times, and if they were to call him racist names, surely logic states that they would also say it to others

Several times? As far I know there was ONE previous incident with a Chelsea groundsman. What other incidents were there?

Now if Suarez were to abuse other players he'd get caught out, so doing this just to Evra would make perfect sense.

yeah maybe so, but there has been a lot of diving in this world cup, a fact that has been ratified by the top class referees not buying into the various shenanigans

I don't like what certain sections of the media and other people have said about Evra being banned if his allegation can't be proved. If his allegation can't be proved it doesn't mean he lied.

If his allegation can't be proved, I think that certain people will see this has a good excuse to undermine how serious a problem racism is in society and in football.

If I was Evra and I heard Suarez really saying those things, I would have lashed out. Then people would have said how come Evra just lashed out like that and if I was Suarez and I really did have the intention to say those things, I'd be very confident of not being caught, I could even carry on saying it to Evra every time I play against him.

I think if his allegations were proved to be false as opposed to not being proved then I think he should be banned. If which ever is lying I think they should face trouble for it.

Evra is the liar here. That it is him whose lying and weakening the work for kicking racism out of football with his false allegations is an insult to every footballer, every football club, and every fan.

He should be banned so others don't take the false allegation route.

Quite frankly he's disgusting and everybody who agrees with kicking racism out of football should agree there's equally no place for false allegations in football as much as there's no place for racism. It's the numerous false race cards that have been waived in recent years that's hurting the cause most.

This is in no way supportive of Suarez. I can't stand the cheating diving mong.

I don't have a problem with that, if he's lying throw the book at him.

You're jumping the gun, you don't know that he's lying, he wasn't proved to be a liar the last time.

You'd think that after the first or second time of the alleged accusation, and certainly by the third time Evra would have had a quiet word with the ref, the lino, and/or his team mates and told them to look out for it.

Eh? In that link he's talking about the racist abuse he suffered when he went to Senegal. You're suggesting he lied about that?

My point with the link was for those that mentioned of Evra never using the race card or accusing people of racism, in said link he was accusing his own people (since he was born there) of racism. I'm baffled in a way that out of so many players it's Evra who's supposedly been involved in most incidents.

My second point with the whole Gourcuff situation was that I find it ironic that Evra is accusing Suarez of racism (who has never been accused before) even though Evra himself as the captain of his NT was shunning and humiliating Gourcuff because of certain things including him supposedly being gay (is that not a form of racism?).

While everybody was talking about Anelka's antics, it was actually Evra who most of France wanted to be banned forever from the French NT and Lilian Thuram went as far as pubicly stating this opinion. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jul/02/france-lilian-thuram-patrice-evra

Why would Suarez in all his professional years behind him decide to racially abuse Evra in that one game, not like he hasn't played in more hectic games before has he?
