Think we desperately need to try and get Bastoni signed asap before Inter sell anyone else and then don't have to sell him.

If we're serious about backing Conte I want to see us get him signed up in the next week or so.
Yes but only IF he's the one Conte wants as his first choice, and IF he is available within the budget we have remembering it's not the only position we need filled.

Would he want to be an option for us, as opposed to the main man at Brentford or someone like Leicester?

Who knows? But if he does want that, then we should take him. I don’t think he’d be short on minutes to be honest.

One of our biggest issues is a lack of talent on the bench. If you have Eriksen on there, that’s a difference maker. You could rest players pre CL games and bring in Eriksen in total confidence that he’ll do the job.

and there we go again, fans moaning about how a fucking free signing with the stature of Eriksen would fit in a 3-4-3. Its called options ffs.

moaning or simply expressing an opinion? Nothing that anyone has said (as far as I can see) can be construed as moaning.

The key thing is as conte has expressed, is tactical flexibility depending on opposition, plus the ability to really change things in game which is what we lack currently

The problem is, the player has a say too!

It's never as simple as just saying 'get it done'. With the profile of player we are looking at It's inevitable they will wait and see if they get a better offer.

We could meet Bastoni's asking price, offer his contract terms, no haggling, no messing around, and the player STILL could wait and see if Chelsea make an offer.

We have to be realistic about where we are in the food chain, we are not first choice for elite level players - we are their backup option.

It the conundrum we've had for years, do we target the very best players we can attract, and run the risk of them signing late or going elsewhere. Or target players who would come straight in, but aren't necessarily the best we could get.

Apparently us and Utd have bid €50m for Torres - he prefers Utd according to this source.

Would much rather Bastoni/Gvardiol/Bremer/N’dicka anyway.

He seems like a left footed Lindelof to me.

IF he prefers utd to us, then hes a fool! even with bias spurs glasses off, new manager (unproven in league ) team is a shambles, only in europa etc, etc.. i could go on.

"Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly interested in signing former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace."

Who's keen ?
Good HG prospect and could replace Sanchez and Tanganga and rotate with Romero for RCB spot. Not sure how much would Palace ask for him.

I'd love to see us get a couple in early, before we get back for pre season no including the GK

Yeah obviously needs to be Conte's first choice but I'm pretty confident he will be. Conte absolutely loved the kid at Inter and when it comes to LCB's he is basically the best option available on the market, just ahead of Gvardiol.

As for the price, he will probably cost around £50-60m. With the funds we have available plus sales, he should be well within our budget. GK is going to be a free, it looks like Eriksen is on our list and he'd be a free. That would leave us needing a LCB, CCB, CM, LWB, RWB and FWD. Neither wing back position is going to cost huge money as there simply aren't many if any elite, expensive wing backs out there. We're talking £12-25m for either side in reality (likes of Spence, Singo, Raum, Sosa, Kostic), possibly free with Perisic. CM should be somewhere in the £30-50m range depending on if we go for the likes of Bissouma, Neves, Phillips etc. Add a forward for £50m and the other CB for say £30m.

So let's go high end:

GK £0
LCB £60m
CCB £30m
RWB £25m
LWB £25m
CM £50m
CAM £0
FWD £50m

Total £240m

£150m to spend plus CL money and sales. Should easily generate £100m in sales but even if we generated £50m in sales plus £50m CL money that's a £250m budget.

Very good player. Would be a great signing to replace Sanchez/Rodon in the squad but not sure if the player would be keen on leaving a gig where he starts every week to come and potentially be understudy to Romero and Dier. He could probably replace Dier on quality alone but for me Dier brings so much leadership to the backline I'd find it hard to drop him.

Might be better to pick up an older player like De Vrij for that role.

As odd as it is that we're building a war-chest for players, its even odder that were being so public about it.
(An no, there are NO regulatory reasons that ENIC NEED to publicly disclose their increased stake as we're no longer a plc!).

Maybe it's simply an attempt to shut the media up with their continual bleating about Conte leaving. The whole Harry Kane saga last Summer threw a big spanner in the works and I'm sure Levy would rather not have another 3 months of that kind of shit. It's a simple statement that we have a large amount of money to support Conte and his vision for us going forward.

Came from daily mail, who also mentioned Renato Sanches

Agreed. The next question then is why announce it BEFORE said spending spree has kicked into gear given the impact that it will have on prices being quoted? Thats the surprising part for me given that Chelsea, ManU and NewSaudiGeordies will be looking to make statement signings too.

Because Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Patrice Evra, Paul Scholes said so... Everyone good should sign for Man Utd right?

I agree with the first bit, he probably is high up on the list but doesn't mean he's top. Stopped reading when you started talking about what he would cost as it's just pie in the sky to think anyone could be able to guess what a player will be bought and sold for and it's rarely what you expect.

Maybe to send a message to the likes of Bastoni that we're not fucking around and will be targetting quality players. We've always suffered with players waiting around to see if any better offers come in, but this time we most likely want to get the ball rolling early with a big signing.
