It was me that said what you quoted not Mattspur.
Rio was part of the English golden generation that promised much and delivered nothing. It remains to be seen if it is will be a bargain. I don't think 30 million for Rio is what I would have called a bargain. Shaw is only a right back and must develop into a very, very good right back to justify that fee.

Rio was utterly immense during their CL winning 2007/8 season, absolutely out of this world. The very definition of a world class defender as he had everything in his locker, the last of a dying breed...

Again I think you are looking at it wrong. You are trying by to put a logical attachment to the money which is impossible as to me and you its stupid money for normal folk.

Using Rio again as an example. He cost £30m for 12 years of service so £2.5m a season. In that time he help Utd win 15 titles including 6 league titles and 1 CL. In addition to that he ensured that UTD didnt need to spend more money finding a capable CB as he was what they needed which gave them consistency (which aides success)

For example since signing Rio, Utd have spent £61.5m on 4 CBs (including Rio). We have spent 46.7m over the same time on 12.CB's.

Now this is a very simplistic view on things as obviously we will have a better net figure due to sale but that only affects smaller clubs like us. Utd don't care about net figures they care about results. The consistency they got from Rio (not having to change CB every year) brought them success alongside his ability and for that reason Rio was a stonewall bargain for Man Utd.

I think this Costa to Chelsea rumor is just the media jumping the gun. He may well end up at Chelsea but I don't understand why Athletico would agree to sell their star striker a week before their league title showdown with Barcelona and 2 weeks before the Champions League final with Real Madrid. All for a pretty reasonable price of £32m. Seems like crap to me. Probably just Barca or Real trying to unsettle the ship.

Costa probably been wrapped up since last summer when they re-loaned Courtois. Hence this being the reason Mourinho didn't sign a ST in both windows. He already had his man just didnt arrive until after this month.

Drogba wasn't "amazing" for Marseille, infact he had a worse goal record than Costa does, and he was in an easier league. But, Mourinho turned Drogba into one of the worlds best. I am honestly frightened at what damage Costa will do with Hazard, Oscar, willian etc feeding him in

Am I the only one who is not convinced that there is even a bid for Shaw from Utd? Ironic it was leaked same day City won title. PR machine IMO.

From an agent in Spain..

Madrid will try hard again for Suarez.
Soldado and Torres to Atletico.
Spurs will try for David Villa again..
Barcelona have signed Ter Stegen and Luiz. Hummels, Koke(clause from Villa deal), Laporte, Reus, Kompany all possibilities.
Madrid will sell Pepe, Arbeloa, Benzema. They want Suarez, Greizmann, Inigo Martinez and Munaian.

Barca will sell Tello, Song, Mascherano, and Dani ALves to Psg(40 mil euros).

Ba, Eto'o and Torres have had the same midfield feeding them, but none of them have come out of the season with flying colours.
I'm hoping Costa ends up as successful as Soldado.......

Surely Adam Lallana has more of a brain than to go to Liverpool. He's to good to be benchwarming there, unless either Coutinho or Sterling dies.

Surely we should be looking at Pepe and Benzema given our special relationship? I'm convinced Suarez will be a Madrid player next year too.

What in the world makes people actually think we are an interesting club for Pepe and Benzema. Not to mention they aren't affordable for us.... come on....

If you don't ask you don't get, we signed Van der Vaart didn't we?

Maybe Lloris will sell it to him? Maybe he wants to come to the prem?

Benzema and Pepe are first teamers highly paid and CL finalists. We had CL with VdV. We tried to sign Real Madrid players with the bale deal and non of them were really interested.

If benzema wants to have a look on the premier league: United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool would be there before us.

I thought Barcelona are banned from signing players?
