Arguably our starting line up come the beginning of the season could be:

Lloris

Walker
Kaboul
Vertonghen
BAE

Sandro
Paulinho
Dembele

Bale
Chadli
Soldado (if we can pull off the very public deal )

Out of these the green players played today- the latter only getting 5 minutes before his injury. I realise this is a stylised example as Rose, Dawson, Parker (perhaps), lennon and Defoe/Ade would all argue they are in contention to start versus Palace.

It is a concern that perhaps our likely first team players aren't getting a chance to play together (although Monaco and Espanyol are opportunities for that), however don't get too carried away what 10/11 of our second string did today in unusual conditions against an almost full strength Premier league side.

I thought for spells we looked very good, roll on to the next one!

Positives that adebayor and walker were very good. Sig played ok too as did daws first half. Negatives- Parker is average, Dempsey won't stop shooting from anywhere and our second string defence is shaky.....
Vertonghen the big worry tho! This game means nothing

Siggy is good..... keep him!! Sell that useless Dempsey. FS!

We need a another striker, Both Ade and Defoe had good chances, that they failed to convert. Rose looked good, and so did fryers when he came on. Conclusion it is only a freindly the real business starts in 3 weeks

Verts as tough as nails will be fine.

just a side note zeke fryers was taken along to try and get him more switched on and to be the talent he supposedly was at united. He has to improve especially due to the amount of investment in him.

this happens all the time taking youngsters along for the experience. For example vigaroux was on the bench at colchester to give him confidence. He also usually trains at half time of premier league games on the whl pitch.

never mind we lost badly I expected that so cant say im shocked we move on. One things for certain avb must sort out set pieces both defending and attacking. Amateur stuff.

not a bad game even though we lost, its a pre season friendly so i never care just good to see some football and the players get fit , that pitch though was shockingly bad. Interesting as well as the team started will be massively different to the start of the season, we had no kaboul, sandro, paulinho, dembele, bale, chadli, ekotto, lloris, vertonghen(he got injured quickly) and maybe soldado so it's good to see we have strength in depth.

yep it was only a friendly on an awful pitch but apart from brad and daws that was awful. no pattern of play for us at all. just disjointed opportunistic play that you see in school games. that defence is so bad it's scarey and obviously very little has been done on set pieces in both defence and attack.

Out of the players on show today, I'd only include Walker in our strongest 11. It was more of a shop window for players such as Hudd, Parker and possibly one of the strikers. Sunderland looked a lot fitter which won them the game on that paddling pool of a pitch. Ade looked good but tends to drift from the main striker position, which highlights the need for Soldado to be signed up. The greediness shown by Dempsey, Defoe and Townsend was so frustrating to watch, not team players at all.

The only consolation is that not many who played today will be in the first eleven. Maybe Walker, Dawson, Verts, definitely not Parker, Hudd, who must make the slowest CM pair in the Premiership. But it was the very luck luster display of several who could be on the fringe of the first eleven that is so disappointing. At least AVB knows they are not good enough.
But Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho and Bale plus a good striker will make a hell of a difference.

Looked more the ankle, commentator said AvB asked him if he wanted to go back on so fingers crossed.

Rose looked out of his depth, Sessengnon tore him a new 1 all night.

Ade applied himself well, Dawson great leadership and what a save from freidel!

Shit game, crap conditions in a game that really wouldn't have gone ahead if it wasn't for the money men.

In my mind I'm glad that we will probably avoid Man City on Saturday,.

Funny, the only Spurs player who was happy tonight was BAE :D

Ade did make a game of it and looked good, so was that to show he will compete for a starting spot?.... or just shop window stuff for the Turkish league? I want him to stay personally, hoping he got all that pouting/negativity out of his system for this contract cycle last season :mask:

conditions very bad, no risking bale, kabol, or chedli I see... a long as Jan is okay, then today's game was just great... (y)

that is a good 1st XI indeed but i still think Villas-Boas doesn't rate Benny as much as the fans do, wouldnt be surprised to see Fabio Coentra in the side

I understand your line up above, but I think it's premature to assume Kaboul and Sandro will be ready to start Priemier League matches in August IMHO :cautious:

maybe this is more likely?

lloris
walker verts dawson BAE
dembele paulinho holtby
chadli ade bale
of course soldado would be great, ut arriving so late I doubt he would just get "plugged" straight in... :borg:
