Having never heard of him before June, I can now exclusively confirm that:

a) I always thought he was shit;
b) He is shit; and
c) He will always be shit

:cautious:

If he was being signed as a CB I’d have been pretty in to it, but if he was going to be our first choice RB I don’t think he would have been the correct choice.

Way back in July we were supposedly really close to signing him, I wonder what changed.

I'm pretty sure we dropped our interest when Tanganga played very well against city.

Yeah I don't think Nuno or Fab were expecting Tanganga to be the solution, but the lad stepped up and showed that he is ready to go & fills that RB/RCB slot.

Unless Tomiyasu is also taking over from Arteta, Edu, Stan Kroenke, their entire physio team and Gunnersaurus then he isn't going to be the solution to their problems.

Both Emerson and Tomiyasu very good defensively and in 1v1s. Both physical and good in the air, aggressive defenders. Emerson a bit quicker, faster, and athletic in general. Tomiyasu a better progressor with his passing, Emerson better with his carrying. In general, Tomiyasu better at progression in general. Emerson better outlet skills, much better final ball and variety and quality of delivery. Tomiyasu versatile and assured with both feet. Both good signings, but I do think Emerson is better and has more potential.

He is one I would really love we could get. Not that Emerson isn't bad, but I thought his versatility will be so important for us tactically when needed.

But now I am really fucking detesting some of our players like Aurier, Tanguy and Winks - they know they are surplus to requirement, and yet they chose not to leave and/or not bucking the shit up either. Fuckers.

i think he was too big a risk for us to take. I really haven't seen a Japanese player really thrive in the EPL, Okazaki, and Yoshida are the only two that are playing at a pretty high level. but I am more concerned about the big stars that didn't make it, Kagawa and Nakata.

I will eat my words if he becomes a revelation at arsenal, but i feel it's tough for a Japanese player to settle in England. but i think he will struggle at arsenal, how many of their players speak Japanese or Italian?

Correlation doesn't imply causation - I think those situations are far more down to the quality of the respective players and their personalities rather than any issues with cultural adaptation. Much like Kagawa, Mikhitaryan failed to do well after moving to the UK from Dortmund. Does that mean Armenians struggle to adapt too?

Korea is about as culturally different to the UK as Japan, yet Sonny is absolutely tearing it up and Park Ji Sung did great up at United.

Korea is very different from Japan. Frankly, Korea has more "western" influences as compared to Japan, who likes to keep everything "in house"

i really don't think he will settle. but hind sight is 20/20, so we shall see how he does at arsenal

I lived in Korea for 2 years and it's still very bloody different from the UK, believe me.

(South Korea, that is! North Koreans might actually find themselves quite at home in Burnley)

Would be interesting to hear the club’s rationale for going for Emerson over Tomiyasu who was reportedly on our radar all summer.

If I were Paratici for approximately €10m less I would’ve went for Tomiyasu & used those funds to get another deal done. I think both are good players but I really like Tomiyasu’s versatility.
