My sisters both went to OLC, as did Babs Windsor.

Our Lady's Convent is very close by to the other school.

Babs is an adopted Stoke Newington/Stamford Hill girl though. Her Mum moved up from Hoxton, cos she wanted to go upmarket.

Edit: Did you know Helen Shapiro TCO? She went to Northwold Junior School apparently, another S/N SH girl.

Woke up this morning, realising I meant to say Grey-Green coaches.
Not far from the Guninness Trust estate where I knew many families.

That was it! I'd forgotten meself! Where did those coaches ever go? Don't think I ever got on one.

Now trying to think of the name of the Pub opposite Guinness flats ?

The Bird Cage. Guinness flats still looking spic and span, been renovated, even Princess Diana visited once.

No didn't know her only of her.

My junior school was St Scholasticas which dhared a part of Millfield Sch in Clapton.

Millie (My Boy Lollipop) went there.

Oh the school I thought I knew was wrong, I was thinking of Skinners where the young ladies were anything but.

Aw, I know Millie's record!

I could've gone to Skinner's, alot of my friends and neighbours did, but as I'd gone to Princess May Primary in Dalston, I stayed in the area for Secondary, at Dalston County/Mount in Shacklewell Lane.

No, the school I wrote about was an Independent Orthodox Jewish school.

The most well known Trojan albums were probably Tighten Up Vol 1 & 2...by various...the Upsetters...and an early version of Red Red Wine
Helen Shapiros parents lived in Sharon Gardens a predominantly Jewish Street off Vicky Park Road.
TCO....true that Stamford Hill was well known for tis frummers but many Jews had moved to Hackney E9 from Brick lane and thereabouts. We had quite a few Jewish kids at our school....at Lauriston Road. Most went to the Synagogue in Shore Road for Hebrew classes after school. Many Jewish people lived in King Edwards Road, there were many large three storey places there, sadly mostly demolished for flats. There was a fanastic Jewish bakery on the corner of Mare St / King Edwards Road which sold crusty bread, smoked salmon and rollmops. In our flats the old jewish women would pay us a shilling on Friday evening to turn the lights on so they could properly see in the shabat.
Lily did you know Maxine Young at Dalston Mount / County? Born in 1957 I think.

The bread from there - wow.

When I was working on the buses out of Dalston Garage at the back of London Fields I used to call in there and get beautiful
tasty fresh loaves. I lived for a few years on the Frampton Park Estate near Well Street and the Bingo.

I still pick up a cholla (sp?) loaf whenever I can. :hump:

No, that was a bit before my time Steve. It had already become Dalston Mount when I joined, after teaming up with Mount Pleasant school and changing to that silly name that no-one had ever heard of lol! I probably saw her pic though, cos we always had B&W photo exhibitions of the County girls in cooking lessons etc. :)

Our uniform was grey skirts with a mulberry coloured blazer, cos we had a mulberry tree in the forecourt, but whenever I wore it everyone from up your way always stopped me and asked if I went to Cardinal Pole!

My Mum worked at a factory just round the corner in Commercial Road as a Machinist making Men's suits. Her boss Len was Jewish. It's all changed now ofcourse, and is mostly Bangla Deshi.
Does anyone still go to the Lane of a Sunday morning? (Petticoat Lane market). Haven't been for years.

Your thinking of Edith Cavell down past Dalston way.

I'm gonna split this @Ackneyboy thread and start a new one in chat.. @cos this one has gone so very much off topic.
