Arsenal have better CMs than we do. We haven't got the creativity to play well through the middle. Nor do our CMs have the off the ball quality to provide a decent barrier to their creativly superior CM. Matching them up in the centre when you're weaker there is to invite a defeat.

We are strong on our flanks where they are all the more exploitable, because as you say they play narrow. Adebayor is also adept at getting involved in build up play, he regularly over-loads defenders by making the extra man. Defoe is at his best playing off another striker. I don't think he's a brilliant goal-scorer, but given our paucity of options he is the most likely to score for us.

On the other hand we will be weaker in the centre, and to make the most of our wingers we need a progressive CM like Carroll, who will make us even weaker defensively, compared to playing two defence minded CMs such as Vertonghen and Sandro. We will need some luck to prevent them scoring.

442/4411 is not an ideal formation to play away at Arsenal, and if we had some guile, and dynamism in CM then I would not be advocating it. Unfortunately we are where we are and a punchers chance is better than no chance at all. We have to provide the platform for our big guns to get their shots away. Covering up and staying on the ropes is not a strategy to win, it's not even a strategy to not lose, it is a strategy which will see us knocked out.

Loving the boxing analogy! :blackeye:

Bale hatrick tomorrow. Adebayor will make them wish they'd never sold him. Sandro will break someone. Heard it all here first :)

Huddlestone = No.

Not for this game, he will get slaughtered. I have seen oil-tankers turn quicker than he does.

I have similar concerns, as previously Huddlestone has been murdered in these games. They normally play around him, which even without Fabregas they still have the capabilities to do so. The problem is, who do you play there instead, who you can guarantee will have any greater effect on the game. I'm not sold yet on Carroll.

You have a habbit of picking awful, awful line-ups. And as usual, you haven't disappointed!

Parrett, Falque and Carroll all making their full league debuts away to Arsenal? that's positively suicidal.

I was more worried about the prospect of Walcott running at Livermore. Ouch!

Apart from Lennon (who I presume is fit) instead of Falque this was the team I suggested. I honestly think that three in the central midfield brings together the best qualities and attributes we are going to need tomorrow.

Quite honestly, a 4-3-3 with Verts-Sandro-Carroll in midfield would be pretty good mobility and a great blend of being able to pick a long pass (Verts), strong defensively (Verts/Sandro), and a good attack-minded midfielder who can play further up and find the slotted ball into the box (Carroll). Can you imagine that back 4 and midfield 3 if we had Kaboul to put in Gallas' place and BAE in Naughton's? That'd be VERY tough to go against.

I hope we push Verts up as a CM for this game. Hudd just to slow and overall poor and while i do like the prospect of Carroll i dont think he is quite ready yet. Will add some more steel to our middle, and Verts do have both a good pass and shot on him.

Lloris

Walker - Caulker - Gallas - Naughton

Sandro - Verts

Lennon - Adebayor- Bale

Defoe

I also wont mind if we play Sig as a number 10 and push Ade up as the lone striker, but i feel Dempsey have shown to little to get picked ahead of Sig once again.

I would like to see this too. Unfortunately I think we'll see Dempsey instead of Carroll (kill me!). That's more of a 4-3-3 for me though.

But WHYYYYYYY!?! WHY AVB WHY!?!? Why do you do this to me.

I fully expect that to be the lineup and I will want to kill myself as soon as I see it lol.

I'm shocked so many people here are realistically excluding Dempsey, Friedal, and Defoe. All three will start (though they shouldn't) in my opinion, as AVB has shown himself to be ultra stubborn. It will take one more loss and serious intervention from Daniel Levy before Lloris and Adebayor are starters in this side permanently.
