The thing about this Ajax team is they have so much energy and combative nature. The thought of Ziyech, Tadic, Neres of skipping past a slow and ponderous Dier is bleak

Here is a thought

Can we say line up 10 at the back in a line on the 18 yrf box and just defend for 90 mins.

Get nil nil

Then batter the fuckers in the away when we get out players back

I would take that

If only Dembele was available.....

Knowing his recent record with us, he’d likely be on the injured list as well.

We should have had a Dembele replacement last summer when we knew he wasn’t going to sign an extension and with Wanyama’s injury record in the last couple of Seasons.

You forgot to put in rose to complete the set of playing every available defensive player

Self praise is no praise but this the best we can hope for

Lloris
Alderweireld Sanchez Vertonghen
Trippier Sissoko Dier Eriksen Rose
Lucus Dele

It's a toss up between a slow dier or an unfit wanyama

Assuming none of our injured players are back :

Lloris
Sanchez Alderweireld Vertonghen
Trippier Wanyama Eriksen Dele Rose
Llorente Moura

If Sissoko is fit

Lloris
Trippier Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Sissoko Wanyama
Moura Dele Eriksen
Llorente

Just edited this after watching press conf. Where Poch said Winks definitely out, maybe Sissoko back.

Pretty much. Not many other choices for us really!

With no Kane or Son I really think Llorente will start. Lucas will be too isolated and easy to mark if we play him alone up top. Also I think this game might actually suit Llorente - Ajax won't sit back and I think he'll have a few opportunities.

I think Sissoko will also be really important - if he's not fit we have no choice but to go 3 at the back unless we play Dier and Wanyama together in the middle which would be horrible.

The key to this home leg is set pieces. De Ligt aside, they are a very small side. If we use Llorente, and have Wanyama in midfield, we could bully them on set pieces. Just have to basically move De Ligt around and put the ball where he isn’t.

Just got to get the ball over the wall. Not easy you know...
