I agree with you about a central trio with Carroll in. I think AVB needs to do something at this stage given our recent results. We need a shot in the arm and something different, Carroll may help us move the ball around with a bit more tempo.

I think then you have Holtby right, Sig left and Adebayor up top. So Ceballos on the bench rather than start, but we shouldn't be afraid to use him and I'd put him on ahead of Dempsey. We're pretty much guaranteed some enthusiasm and he'll take some risks in trying to impress, could be the wildcard we need.

As you've rightly pointed out in previous threads, Andre has to be braver with his subs bench - it's wholly counter productive in having the same old faces saturating defensive positions when the team needs some impetus off the bench from an attacking sense.

Youthful exuberance can't necessarily be relied upon but it can sure as hell make a positive impact either through impressive individual displays or in bringing about more from the players around. It's got to be a consideration over just moving Vertonghen to left back or bringing on Livermore late on.

I'd like to see a striker on the bench, even if its a 16 yo kid.

Apart from that, I think we should and will go with as strong a team as possible. I wouldn't risk anyone who isnt at least 90% fit, but I think AVB will put out Lennon and Bale if they pass a fitness test.

What's this thread for? Predicting the team, or the team you'd like to see?

Because it's annoying EnfieldYiddo when people pick Lloris and he needs to get help.

are you saying he needs help to understand this thread, or he just needs help?

This thread can be for either. I have put teams i want to see and other times teams that i think we will see.

As I understand it Milos V isn't available to play. He's just gone along for the ride because he was born and raised in Basel and we stole him from their U16s.... so he's basically gone along for the ride to go home, maybe see some family out there - and enjoy the experience of being with the first team squad, etc...

Ceballos and Shaq will have to be on the bench, since we're short of bodies. I'm willing to predict that neither of them will get any minutes on the pitch during this game. Just a gut instinct guess...

same to last game, or drop Dempsey and play Carroll but Dembele as right winger with Holtby as behind striker.

also we need to put Ekotto as LB, they have strong attack, so I hope Dawson and Verts as CBs.

I would like to see Lloris in goal but Brad isnt rubbish by any means. I don't want Gallas in the side or Dempsey.

I would like to see us stop putting square pegs in round holes. In other words I do not want to see Holtby, Sig or Dempsey on the wings. I'd rather we kept our usual shape and introduced youngsters that play in any position we are short e.g. wingers. Unfortunately this makes the loans of Townsend and Falque even harder to understand. Let's try this -

Lloris/Friedel
Naughton Dawson Vertonghen Benny
Walker Dembele Carroll Ceballos
Holtby or Sig
Adebayor

I'm noticing none of you have Huddlestone in your teams (except me), love him or hate him he deserves to start after his substitute appearance against Everton. If he doesnt start then whats the point of any subs coming on in future and trying to do well, if their not gonna earn a place in the team. He showed against Everton what we're badly lacking, someone that can pass the ball at a fast tempo, and I think in a 3 man midfield we can accommadate him (and his lack of pace ect ect).

I only would bring him on if we are desperate to score and Basel is parking the bus. You can't bring him against these pacey Basel midfielders, he woul be useless at the back. Against everton he had time and space. He won't have this at Basel. I prefer Carroll.

walker at rm is more than a square peg in a round hole. I think Holtby and Sigy have played far more games as a winger than Walker has.

I think 1 good sub aperance doesnt mean you start the next game. if it does then we would be changing the team almost every game.

you play your self into the team in most cases. training hard and taking the chances you get as a sub.
lets see if he can have a nother good impact when he/ if he comes on

Imperative we keep the ball tonight

Freidal
Walker Dawson Verts BAE
Parker Carroll
Dembele
Holtby Gyfi
Ade

Our full backs need big games tonight both defensively and for providing attacking width

I think if he's in a 3 man midfield with Parker and Dembele we would be ok, as Parker and Dembele could do the 'dirty work', and Hudd can hold the center of the pitch, and spray the ball about. I'm worried we're just gonna play like we have been lately, with no fluidity, and struggle to break them down.

Playing Friedel in goal, is like having a wank with your whole family at home.. Such a high chance of getting caught out with your pants around your ankles. Whereas having Lloris is like having one when the family is out of the house. There is always a possibility of getting caught out but realistically you are safe.

With that analogy my team:

Lloris (10 day break why not?)

Walker
Caulker
Vertonghen
BAE

Parker
Holtby
Dembele (Advanced Mid)

Ceballos
Ade
Siggy

If we are serious about playing youngsters.. Then we should start them and give us a chance to take them off rather than bringing them on and them being ineffective. We all know how Bale got in the first team, maybe its Ceballos' turn? or another youngsters.

There's abolsutley no way someone like Ceballos comes into the team on a night like this, but as it's the team we'd like to see then fair enought - that's your choice.

I've not heard AVB say categorically that Friedel is now the Europa GK so i'm still hopeful he has the balls to make the call. The team i'd like to see is as follows. Although BAE would need to wake the f*ck up for the first time this season or i'd haul him off after 20 and stick Vert out there!!!!!!!!! Hudd is in there cos keeping the ball, but being able to play it forward quickly and accurately is also important (and let's be honest Parker is incapable of doing this). I also think Dembele is more suited out wide than Holtby, so let's let Holtby play central behind Ade and see if he can have the influence he seemed to have at Schalke.

Lloris - Walker, Vertonghen, Dawson, BAE - Parker, Huddlestone, Holtby - Dembele, Sigurddson, Adebayor

Can you spot the square pegs that you have put in round holes?
