I really hope AVB picks a side that won't impact on our chances on Sunday. West Ham are going to be fresh, they'll come and in typical big Sam fashion they will want to turn into a real scrap. Providing we have seven/eight players fresh for the fight this shouldn't be a problem - but I don't want Dembele or Paulinho risked out in Russia.

Its imperative that our engine room for Sunday is fresh for the fight - if it is we should be beating West Ham all day long.

I'm already worried that one of them will play on Thursday. This is a game that isn't essential to win for our chances of progression, it really isn't. We'll still top the group in all likelihood no matter the result in this one.

Hope he picks a side that won't compromise our chances on Sunday. We have a huge chance to win our next three league games, and I think we need three wins as well - November looks a tough month thereafter.

No injuries and plenty of rotation surely is the order of the day here.

So you don't want AVB to compromise the Spammers game we take it ?

i no he splits fans on SC but i would like to see Lennon Get some game time this week if fit. think a 3 behind Defoe/soldado of lennon/eriksen/lamela would be good see how lennon fits in .but for the game at anzhi i wouldnt mind to see holtby in for eriksen i still think we need to get players to the byline especially when soldado plays he seemed to thrive on volleys from people crossing in from behind the defenders just my opinion.

I agree with the bit in bold above but I think AVB may be looking a bit further ahead with his selections in the group. Our next three group games are followed in the PL by West Ham, Hull and Newcastle at home. If we win the three group games with a decent side out we should still be capable of beating those three at home on the following Sunday. Manage those three wins and we'll have 12 points and will be guaranteed qualification.

The last two group games (Tromso A and Anzhi H) are followed by United at home and Liverpool away. If we've already qualified for the knockout stages AVB can put out any side he likes to enable us to be at our strongest for those two big games.

So for me Thursday night will be;

Lloris
Naughton
Rose
Dawson
Chiriches
Sandro
Paulinho
Holtby
Lamela
Chadli
Defoe

I just checked exactly where AM is. It's on the Caspian see for bleep's sake. How UEFA decide that the Russian league should be in European comps... Put another way they are more than TWICE as far away as Budapest and I think that most would describe that as towards the Eastern limit of Europe

Basically don't even take the first 15

Send the kids to Russia.

Save the adults.

We can always play the adults against the Russians at the Lane if we need to.

Just seen anzhi bottom of their league yet to win! Let's just send Harry Kane and tell him to get the job done :)

Watched the goals from a recent game, the pitch is shite, much better than last season when Liverpool played them though, don't get any hopes up about a great game, smash and grab job this one.
Paulinho, Dembele and Vertonghen should all be rested before we play the Spammers, but i have a bad feeling AVB will play them.
Even if Lennon and Capoue are fit i wouldn't risk them.

Anzhi are playing their European games at a different stadium than the one they used last season. Last season's (Lokomotiv Moscow) looks much better than the one they're using this season, Saturn Moscow who play in the amateur league.

___________Friedel

Naughton_Dawson_Chiriches_Fryers

______Sandro____Bentaleb

__Chadli____Holtby_____Kane

___________Defoe

That should be good enough to win relatively comfortably. Anzhi haven't won all season and they're bottom of the Russian league.

We actually have very few kids available.

Kane, Fryers and the misfit Dawkins are the only players with meaningful experience.

Obika, Fredericks and Stewart come next closest, but all seem to be injured. That leaves Lancaster and Coulibally as the only players who have kicked a ball in a senior game at any level. Veljkovic, Bentaleb, Coulthirst etc have potential but are completely untried.

Mind you, you could of course say the same about Carroll, Kane and Fredericks, and to an extent Townsend and Falque, two years ago in the Europa under Harry and they did alright (it was more the senior pros who let us down). But I can’t see AVB risking such inexperienced players.

Anzhi won't be playing any of their matches at the Anzhi Arena in Europe due to trouble in the area. Instead it's been moved to near Moscow, in Saturn FC stadium.

Onto my starting line up, resting as many starters as possible while giving run outs for those who aren't starting. Paulinho could do with a break after playing so much recently. I'd expect Lamela and Defoe to get run outs too as I can't see either starting against West Ham. AVB played Lloris in the first match, so I can't see him not doing so again. I don't think Holtby will sit in with Sandro as AVB sees him as a number 10 and likes having two solid type of players in there(even against Tromso).

Lloris
Naughton Kaboul Chiriches Fryers
Sandro Dembele
Lamela Holtby Chadli
Defoe

Surprised more people didn't know the game was being played in a Moscow suburb - it was known within a day of the draw.

All of our away matches are long distance - about 1,300 - 1,700 miles from London (even Tromso), so all the away matches will have tiring trips.

Good news is that if we win our 3 home fixtures we are almost certain to get through the group stages. So we need a team capable of drawing - and hopefully winning, so its not essential to play too many of the team who played against Chelsea who we might also play against West Ham.

Agree with your team overall - but I might suggest playing Dawson to save Kaboul, and I wonder iof Freidal will play to give Lloris a break from the flight, although that might mean putting Archer on the bench.

Would like to see a couple of youngsters on the bench, otherwise too many opf the team starting against West Ham will be fatigued from the flight.
