Modric can be brought on to defend a lead. He will be handy to keep basic "Ole!" possession if we swap him out for a striker.

VDV fav position is an attacking/creative midfielder. I don't want our best form player starting out of position on the right. He can actually gets goals assists so lets take it to them. See how Keano reacts with a different style of delivery from the middle of the park.

Modric plays good on the left.
He also plays good in the middle at home.

I think he needs to be rested on this one.

I think you are right about him possibly having a bad game. But I think it is time to stick by our players.

You can't get match sharp one or two games a month.

Him, Bentley and Keano should play 90 mins. For every important game.

We paid a combined 40 million for these 3 players. We paid that amount for a reason. IMO only being first choice can get us our moneys worth. Because games will get them match sharp.

Bit of a dilemma.. injuries/knocks from today aside, what team would you pick? We were very good today but we were also quite open - something we cant afford against them lot. Same team or not?

I would want to keep the same team so far as possible. But I think we need a bit more bite in the middle. So I think I'll go for something like this:

I think if we try to play things too tight Arsenal will just tear us to shreds on the day, we need to go into the game looking for the win. Maybe the line up was a little too open against Blackburn but I would like us to go more positive than a lot of the formations I have been seeing in this thread.

exactly. the problem with the diamondish formations last season (doomed games against chelsea/arsenal) was that in ekotto and corluka there is nowhere near enough attacking intent. with hutton and bale however it is quite the reverse and they would never let an opportunity pass by if even the slightest gap arises in front of them.


still, diamonds are shit i dont like the thought of decent players like hudd/jenas/kaboul/modric/wilson sitting in the base not being allowed forward, i always like to see a flat but fluid midfield setup that allows people to express themselves should the opportunity arise.

anyways cant see ekotto being dropped (would be madness no?) and flooding the midfield seems sensible and probably a standard tactic for redknapp away to arsenal so i reckon we gonna roll them over with:

Rafa is best suited to that role, only fit replacement we have for Aaron is Bentley and I just don't want him in this game, solid foundation with the attacking threat of the front 3 and Luka/JJ. Playing Bentley and lumping balls upto Crouch is not what I want to see and we won't win by doing that either.
