I think one of the issues we are having is we really miss the athleticism and aggression of Wanyama. Wanyama definitely fits a 4-1-4-1 or 3-1-5-1 or 3-5-2 system better than either Dembele or Dier or Winks. So the sooner he gets back fit the better.
I really like
Lloris
Sanchez Toby Vertonghen
Aurier Wanyama Eriksen Dele Davies
Kane Son

Anyway , in Wanyama 's absence I still feel Son has to play which means
Lloris
Aurier Toby Vertonghen Davies
Dier Dembele
Son Eriksen Alli
Kane

Honestly don't think we have much to worry about defensively. In Sanchez 2 EPL starts we've given up 1 shot on target. Not sure if people have realised just how much he improves us with his pace ,allowing Toby and Jan to push up ,cutting everything out at source. The issue we have is breaking down packed defences. But I'm convinced Aurier will be crucial in this.Certain we would have beaten Swansea had he started.

He didn't even need to start for us to have won that game, because if the ref was not so incompetent we would have at least won a penalty when he clearly chested the ball and then was tripped in the penalty area. I agree though, first starter if fit any day of the week.

Agree, although I think there is a slight issue with the midfield against packed defences. Against Swansea our front four where occupying there defence meaning Dier was getting most of the ball. Problem with that is Dier doesnt have the finesse to provide that killer pass. We either need to drop Eriksen into that role or bring on Winks (or start him). You can see why we were looking into bringing in Gomes in the transfer window.

The big issue against Swansea was the lack of Davies (or Rose). The shoe-horned versions didn't work on the left, so Swansea didn't worry so much about attacks down their right. Aurier did well, but Trippier is pretty good too. Having Davies on there providing balance means they can't just overload defending our right side.

The question for Poch against bottom half sides is whether he can live with just one deeper midfielder and I think the answer is absolutely yes. We'd still have a back five plus Dier holding midfield when we lose possession. So Sissoko did ok more centrally against Everton playing in a diamond that Koeman said they couldn't handle. I'd prefer Son to play in that system like this:

-------------------------------Lloris-----------------------------
---------Alderweireld - Sanchez - Vertonghen
Aurier--------------------------------------------------Davies
-------------------------------Dier-------------------------------
--------------Eriksen----------------------Son----------------
-------------------------------Alli---------------------------------
------------------------------Kane-------------------------------

Against top 6 teams, that shape invariably changes and Son gets pulled out of this and we add more solidity in midfield with Dembele or Wanyama. But West Ham will play a "deep block" and we might as well take it to them. If we play more solidly we may end up in the Swansea situation again of having to chase the game at 0-0. A blistering start that still has 6 defensively minded players should work out against a poor side like the Hammers.

The Wet Spam we have played the last 2 seasons away have pressed us from deep and we have struggled to break them down. We need to come out fast and hopefully get an early lead

Against Park the bus teams we need to move the ball quicker be much more direct and of course more clinical in front of goal, though I believe we'll beat more than draw or lose against such teams.

Swansea were really defensive it was a surprise how so , they sat very deep and banked up. I read people complaining about balance in the team there is argument to say that however you look at the players we had on the field and it should of been enough to win the game only for Swansea to not play ball.

They always seem to get up for this game even though they're shite. We need to win, can't afford more dropped points.

We would have if we had width IMO, that's how you beat a team who sit deep, keep stretching the pitch and rotate the ball from side to side until their are openings, unfortunately Swansea knew that Trippier or Son had absolutely no intention of going down the left so they left that space free most of the time, shit tactics from Poch hopefully he doesn't repeat it.

I may be in the minority opinion on this but there is no reason to play 3 in the back against West Ham. They'll throw everybody behind the ball and try and hit us on counters like they did last time. We'll need the extra attacking player.

Once again I would like Eriksen deeper/more involved from a deeper position

Lloris
Toby Sanchez Vertonghen
Wanyama
Aurier Dembele Eriksen Davies
Dele
Kane
Though I can't see how to do it without Wanyama?
