OK, let me put it this. Poch is right, playing a team full of kids without an experienced spine is folly, and those advocating it are very silly indeed.

No one is suggesting we play a team full of kids though, just varying degrees of rotating our squad players.

I think something like:

Vorm

Trippier
Alderweireld
Wimmer
Davies

Dier
Winks

Sissoko
Onomah
Son

Janssen

For me that's strikes a great balance between rotating and leaving some experience in there to keep the team dynamic strong enough.

Bring the likes of Nkoudou on to run at them with half an hour to go.

I want to see what Onomah can do centrally pushed up the pitch in a strong enough side. Big audition for him imo.

Vorm

Trippier CCV Wimmer Davies

Sissoko Winks Onomah

Son Janssen N'Koudou
But it'll probably more resemble this;

Lloris

Dier Vertonghen Wimmer

Trippier Winks Dembele Davies

Sissoko Eriksen

Son/Janssen

Don't think we will play Davies and Trippier as wing backs

the likely answer to that is "not much". a true audition for him would be to get the chance to play alongside wanyama or dier, but given that's not going to happen(and winks deserves to start) then i'd rather he wasn't involved at all.

Regarding Edwards. A poster on FTL spoke to Ugo Ehiogu last night and he said Edwards is about 3 weeks away from action.

i mean, he can, but he's not going to excel there, he'll be tidy but that's about it. he's the same at youth level, move him further forward and he's not even half the player but put him in a deeper role and he's a standout talent. until he gets a chance there it's just going to be the same thing with him, he'll do ok but won't have much impact on the game and fans will say what does he do, they don't see anything in him etc.

Ok, I havn't see enough of him at youth level I was just under the impression he was more an attacking midfielder.

I don't think wholesale changes are necessary as we have a full week of recovery before West Brom, though I do think some fringe players get a shot. Definitely expect Janssen, GKN, Winks, and Onomah to get some time.

decent video there showing where he's more suited to playing. i'd love to know if poch plays him further forward because he genuinely sees his future there or it's because he just doesn't trust him enough yet with the defensive responsibilities that are needed from cm, i hope it's the latter and long-term we start to see josh migrate towards that position as otherwise i don't see him ever being able to make a big enough impact to seriously force his way into the 1st team picture.

Going with a good old fashioned 442, Son's pace and good movement should help create space and give Janssen somebody to work with, Son just has to play Janssen in when the pass is on. Shame Edwards is still out, but hopefully we make a big run in at least one of the two cups that he gets some minutes here and there. If this side can't get past Villa then we were never gong to win the cup anyway, need quite a few of these lads to step up and play some big games if we win the trophies to match the clubs ambition.

Part of me says play the kids/second 11. Part of me says play the same team that we fielded against Chelsea.

It could be a training match. A good runaround.

Like, you want the players to keep their eye in. 10 days off seems like a lot to me. I feel like you could lose a bit of sharpness in that amount of time.

However, I guess it's down to the individual players and how Poch assesses them in training etc.

I don't think we looked too leggy against Chelsea, but then again, we could risk an injury to one of the starting 11 if they played against Villa.

I can't imagine it being a tough game as such, and hopefully they'll be beaten before a ball is kicked. In which case it'd be good for some of the starting 11 to keep some sharpness up, and possibly bag some goals/confidence.

Sissoko HAS to start this one. So does Janssen and Winks.

Rested, I'd like to see Kane, Jan, Toby, Kyle, Rose, Big Vic and Alli nowhere near the game. I think.
Wouldn't actually mind if Alli played to be fair.

Might be cool for Eriksen to play, as it might give him opportunity to spray balls about try a few things.
That said, I think I read a stat about him being the player that covered the most distance against Chelsea, so maybe he deserves a rest.

Dunno... It's tricky. I feel the team is starting to really gel, and it's almost a shame to break that up. I feel that the starting 11 is beginning to really think and play as a unit, so maybe it's best to just start the second string so the balance and the mindset of each individual player isn't then altered because they're playing with different people.

Like, it could upset the telepathy or something if starting 11 players are mixed in with the usual benchers.

It may then seem they aren't as familiar with each other for the West Brom game because they've just been playing with fringe/youth/squad players the game before.

I haven't eloquented my point particularly well there. Mainly because I can't be arsed, but I think the concept of what I'm saying should make some sense.

In any case, I'm hoping for a victory, and I'd expect even our second string to get a result. I think it largely depends on what Villa turns up. Hopefully they'll be an absolute nest of peat, and we'll hammer them whatever. Janssen, if fit or whatever, and starts, to bag a couple hopefully. He needs to score from open play.

Simon Phoenix needs to start, as already stated elsewhere in this post, and somewhere, someone's got him down as a number 10 role. I'd like to see what he can do there.

Unfortunately, I can't imagine him and Janssen being too cohesive up front. I think playing Son in the front three should give it a little fluidity though. Shame Lamela isn't back. It would have been an ideal first game back for him.

Happy for Trippier and Wimmer to start. I'm never sure about Davies, but Rose should be in cotton wool at the min. He's been absolutely killer this season, and shouldn't be anywhere near the team for this one IMO.

If we were to start Janssen and Sissoko as the attackers, a 9 and 10 respectively, I can't even begin to fathom how that would work or look. I can imagine Janssen being out wide holding up the ball, and Sissoko just kinda running towards him about five yards away to collect a pass, and then having no one in the box to play it to...

It'd either work, or it'd be comedy.

I think Simon Phoenix deserves a start though. I'm surprised how little we've seen of him in the last three games. Poch must've identified something during training etc, as when he's come on recently, he's looked effective. He only got a handful of minutes against Chelsea, and again there, seemed to look ok. There were some touch-of-a-rapist/Sunday league moments, but I like his directness. His power should bulldoze Villa really.
