I just don't think it's the right time for someone like FDB. I think in long run it could be good but right now this would just be as much of a gamble as it was employing AVB.

It seems like Van Gaal may now end up at Utd as like us, they need a proven winner to take charge. I think few would question the appointment of LVG but plenty could & would debate whether FDB was ready for a top Premier League side.

As much as I feel uneasy about it, our next best option after LVG is probably Rafa Benitez.

I think sticking with, and achieving success with Ajax is the way better option for upward mobility.

I know football is generally crazy but I truly think our reputation has taken a massive hit. Any younger manager showing promise with genuine options or already at a pretty good club like Ajax would need their fucking head examining if they choose to come to and on a hiding to nothing.

Which is a why a 'been there, done that, slapped the pope in the face' nutter like LVG was so attractive. His reputation would be unblemished by not achieving the near impossible with us.

I still think get in someone who completely understands the 'football' itself, styles of play, tactics and how he wants his team to play and we wouldn't be doing too badly at all. AVB tried but as I have said a number of times, I don't think he quite understood exactly how to put the style of play and vision he had in his head into something coherent on the pitch. We have been playing with a flawed, and now, no, structure for the last two campaigns and aren't a million miles away from those above us still. Get some of this stuff in place, fix a few of the many thousand things the team does quite spectacularly badly and I think good things would happen.

Completely agree. Our squad, managed properly is a top 4 squad, imo. Even with the obvious weaknesses at FB etc.

Getting the right guy in is the thing though. Especially as we have no room for error unlike our competitiors. Our mistakes are nearly always punished. We don't have another £150m of striker sitting on the bench to bang in a couple of goals as and when we need to get us out of any holes we find ourselves in, unlike the other clubs, Pewel excepted.

This for me as well, as soon as he loses a few game some fans will start to bitch and want him out.
Or more accurately they'll do that before he loses a few games but use the first couple of losses to really gather momentum to their cause until it snowballs and they get their way.

You may be right.

Yeah, I've said it earlier in the thread, but first sign of trouble it will be the usual - he's only won the title in a weak league, he sticks too ridgidly to his philosophy, he won't play 442 so he's a defensive manager blah, blah, blah....

I once saw him wear a red tie so he's clearly a gooner. The dirty bastard.

I think its the perfect time to appoint FDB. Our whole back line needs a rebuild. If we dont win anything our "star" players - Eriksen and hopefully Lamela are both young enough to stick around for at least 2 more years. I dont think anyone is expecting us to challenge up the top next season, it seems as good as time as any to start again and try and build a proper team under the vision of a manager who is going to be around for a while. The only negative i can see is that Lloris would probably want to leave for one of the top teams.

The only case for any of the managers mentioned in these threads is that they aren't Sherwood.

I'm unsure about FDB

Positives
  • Good reputation from his playing days
  • Won league at Ajax three years running
  • Knows and would hopefully get the best out of Verts & Eriksen

Negatives
  • Only been a manager for 3 years
  • Holland is not a strong league (even Schteeve Mclaren has won the dutch league)
  • Dennis Berkamp is his assistant manager would he also come to us? (would VDV want to be assistant???)
  • Lost cup final 5-1 to a team who are 9th in the league and have never won a major trophy

I think it would be a typical Levy appointment (gamble on a young up and coming manager on the cheap). It just strikes me too much like a Ramos / AVB style appointment. I don't know enough about his prefered style of play to know what to expect but I just hope the next manager can get some kind of team spirit back into the team.

I reckon if Verts and Eriksen rate him, then it would be a worthwhile appointment for that reason alone.

See, slipping up against the smaller teams. He's not even our manager yet ad he's already fucking up.

FDB OUT!

Yep a 1-5 defeat would be all it takes for some to start calling him a fraud. Zero patience for a young manager to develop.

If Tim had actual qualifications and more importantly a clear impressive footballing philosophy and a little class/ humility I'd be all for giving him time!

If we had FDB he'd only be hounded out AVB style

Its why its a damn shame we looked to have missed out on LVG. No one could question the mans skill, players included

100% agree (trying to think if the splits were good or bad)

Remember Eriksen was given a heros send off by the fans but can't remember what FDB reaction was like...
