Agree the team look very down on confidence, have done since bowl 1 match 1.I'm really not seeing nay leadership out there? I love Buttler as a player but he's really not getting the guys going. Not sure if they've given up, or are expecting to just roll teams over?
Up his game?Malan needs to up his game.
Yea fair and I just meant in this World Cup in particular as agree his recent form has been good, I’d just like to see more from our openers (especially Bairstow) but to be fair I had in my head Malan had also got out for about 30 against Bangladesh but I forgot he was the one who got 140, I was thinking that was Root.Up his game?
I think you've hung on to a preconceived notion for a bit too long here. A while ago yeah, you might have had a case and i'd have agreed with you but he's turned that around massively.
He's averaging over 60 at around run a ball. Four hundreds in his last ten innings, and two scores of over 50. Right now, of all the things that might be pointed at, he ain't one of them.
Yea that’s the thing this is a fairly decent set of players but they look bereft of confidence.I find it strange that the confidence and attitude that the Test side has garnered since McCullum took over has not transferred in the slightest to the one day game.
I appreciate the Coach/Captain are different but a lot of the players remain.
While the test team seem to play without fear and confidence that they won't be chastised for making the brave/bold/attacking choice, the one day team on the flip side seem to be playing from a place of fear, fear of losing, fear of being dropped, fear of getting out playing too attacking.
Still time to turn it around but some of them look well short mentally.
Funny thing is, you could put our batting test team out, and just ask them to play the same way, and get a decent 50 over result out of it them just playing normally. Just swapping in Adil Rashid for whatever spinner, and maybe Malan in at 3 instead of Pope. Root goes back to 4.I find it strange that the confidence and attitude that the Test side has garnered since McCullum took over has not transferred in the slightest to the one day game.

I think it stems from the management team, ie Buttler and Mott. Buttler isn't the proactive personality that Stokes is and Mott is....well....invisible it seems.Funny thing is, you could put our batting test team out, and just ask them to play the same way, and get a decent 50 over result out of it them just playing normally. Its funny to watch the 50 over side be less positive and attacking.
Crikey.
England for the wooden spoon?Crikey.
Can they hit a ball with it?England for the wooden spoon?
Boycott reckons he can.Can they hit a ball with it?
What a match that was and performance from Holland especially with the ball.
I’d actually say that was more of a shock than us losing to the Afghans, takes the media spotlight off them for a while to hopefully sort themselves out.
Didn’t work did it?nice try Jos
