I'm sorry but is there another report on this 'bid confirmed by Stoke Chairman', other than 365? One that actually contains a quote from the Chairman?

Because if this 365 report is all there is then No one has read beyond the Headline and sub heading.

No quote, either direct or indirect, no confirmation from anyone affiliated with Stoke.

Nothing more than a Brass Balls statement then waffle about Matthew Upson.

I'm starting to think that the population on here has been fleshed out with Lemmings! :bang:

There are no quotes granted but it does say that it was confirmed on Radio Stoke by the Stoke chairman...

Agree with this 100%, if anything I think it will be us holding the announcement till either Jenas or palacios deal is done.

Or we not obligated to announce any deals over a certain amount to the stock exchange because of the potential difference it could make to our share listing?

If this is the case then we are not able to complete deals but hold off the announcement unless we were agreeing everything in principal without actually finalising the paperwork (which seems unlikely to me) before we can sell the unwanted players in his position.

Keane and Bentley are the two players I most want to see moved on, I am actually starting to regret West Ham going down now because it freed them of their obligation to sign Keane. At this point I'd happily see us sell both for next to nothing just to get them out the club, easily in my mind the worst two signings in our clubs history.

Isn't that the wrong way round? you agree the fee first and then talk to the player.

Not always that simple. Once the two clubs have entered into dialogue with each other and Madrid have indicated they are willing to sell, they can give permission to Spurs to talk to Diarra.

Permission has to be given - not a fee agreed necessarily.

Not always, we have have been talking to the club about a price and they have said we can talk to the player as we are still talking about a price.

Silly way to do it IMO, shouldnt speak to the player untill we know we can agree a price

POTL could be spot on, it very often happens (especially with us) that we tie things up and then only reveal the deal later on.
RM might want us to hold off the announcement if they are trying to sign someone, we might equally be holding off whilst we try and complete a WP out deal.

I wouldn't get your knickers in a twist just yet.

If come 31st August there's no deal, then we can question the info, but even then, we all know what we signed up for when entering this forum.

R.

Can't think of any example of that ever happening, other than Corluka which was delayed for legal reasons.

Problem is, if we don't sign Diarra till 31 August, we'll have dropped up to 9 points due to Jenas lining up in CM.

Yes of course...that'll be it

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. The marketing department have been active on messageboards for well over a decade (Levy admitted this in an interview back in 2001).

POTL gets the more trivial details very correct, but his big info is essentially unconditional reassuring.

I expect Stoke want to wait as long as possible before they have to pay Wilson wages which delays us paying Diarra wages. No doubt the deals have been done and will be announced eventually. makes no difference to me whether they are announced this week or next week, who we have signed by the end of the transfer window is all that matters.

Our outgoing players are on big wages, hardly surprising that none of them want to sign early when they can have us pay higher wages all summer, you would all do the same!

Fingers crossed the Everton game gets called off and we can play it after we have made signings. Still leaves us with 4 games in quick succession.

we are delaying it not stoke due to not being able to agree a fee for Diarra, Stoke want the deal done already and have said this already.

According to skysports transfer clockwatch

I think we all knew this would happen but refused to believe we would be this stupid again. Numerous itks said levy wants to do his business late.

Just a shame we always feel the need to prevent our new signings bonding through pre season. A good start is more important then ever with our run and I'm
Very worried.

Sky sports are just getting crapier by the day. They simply got that from Football 365 who probably got it from a journo making it up to save his or her job

But if true we should accept anything less then 20m

Perhaps Madrid are just playing silly buggers (which would be completely unlike Jose?!?!) and have now decided to test our resolve for Diarra.

My opinion, for what it's worth (practically nothing...), is that we'll get Diarra at some stage during this window. But what's of more concern is why we have been unable to move the deadwood off our books which - if numerous ITK is to be believed (yes, "pinch of salt", I know, I know) - needs to happen before Levy will sanction any new signings. There's been quite a bit of ITK posted recently about real interest from other teams in the likes of Palacios, Hutton, Crouch, Keane, and even Bentley, but the hold-up is apparently at our side.... why?

Same shit, different day.

ITK coming in from all angles, and yet, in the real world we appear to be no nearer moving on the surplus, or any closer to bringing anyone in.

Why???

Well, IMO (and that's all it is) much of it is down to Levy's inner need to have his bi-annual game of brinkmanship with agents, clubs and player.
I'm not for one moment suggesting that he goes all 'Leeds' on us, but surely he must see and understand that the longer his game of'who blinks first' goes on, the less likely the squad is going to able to bed down in time for the start of the season.

I don't think I'm being too dramatic when I say that this season is critical.
We all know that if you stand still for one second in the league, teams will rapidly pull away from you or catch up and overtake. If that happens, then will the likes of Modric, VDV, Sandro et al want to stick around while we scatch around in the Europa league, or worse still, miss out on Europe altogether?

Unlikely.

And then what?
We'll be back to where we were 6/7 years ago, dreaming of a team capable of doing some damage in this league, capable of winning silverware, capable of bringing back the 'glory days'

Well we've got that now, but it can all evaporate very quickly (just look at where Liverpool are now and the way Arsenal look like going)

I just cannot fathom what the risk is (admittedly I'm no financial expert!).
If we spend slightly over the odds (as most are doing this window) and make the promised land of the Champions League, the we can cover the costs of the spending with the increased revenue that the CL brings.
But if we fail to finish top 4, then the likes of Modric etc will most likely be angling for moves away, in which case we sell, recoup the money that we've spent this summer, and we're no worse off.

It's time to face facts.

We either spend to try and compete, and at least try and go toe to toe with the big boy, or go back the the model of 5/6 years ago when we targeted youngsters with promise such as Lennon, Hudd, Daws, Benny, Kaboul etc, and settle for several years knocking around 6th/7th place in the hope that in the meantime we can secure a 60,000 seated stadium.

Sorry for the long post, but I'm as frustrated as fuck, and just needed to get it of my chest.

Carry on.

There's no middle

I guess they didn't envisage that there would be even more anger then before when in fact there wasn't any deal. I doubt your theory

Or they just keep feeding us similar false hope, with fingers crossed that Laurel and Hardy won't embarass themselves too much in the time before the window closes and we're stuck with our lot till Jan.

Might have gone from an 'observer' to a 'communicator'. It has been noted before that he became active exactly the same time that Paul Barber moved to Canada (and left this board), so POTL is possibly his successor/replacement strategy.

It makes no difference if Stoke bid for Crouch because unfortunately for us he is "extremely happy" at spurs.
