I'm of the opinion we will get there TSH I share some of your optimism and I also respect Levy and Redknapp for getting us where we are now... If the difference between getting Adebayor or Carlton Cole is this week (CC) or 31st Aug (EA) I know what I would prefer...

Am i the only one on here that feels we are being taken for a ride?? 3rd window in a row we have done fuck all when we were on the verge of being a really top side, we seem to be standing still....or worse, going backwards....fucking buy a forward Levy you tight **** before Everton and Villa become our rivals again!!

No sadly you aren't

Incidentally can we all just lay off the blame game in here even if it's just for an hour or so. There's no ITK so why don't you all go out and frolic on the rest of the site for a bit? I promise it will still be here when you get back.

I'm not actually that optimistic about signings but I recognise that the club has taken massive steps under Levy and I prefer to look at the long term picture rather than the relatively short term failure to find a striker.

I just don't like how spoilt Spurs fans seem to have become. If we ever won the league I think I'd have to stop supporting Spurs because our fans would really start to become unbelieveable tools

There's no need to post for the sake of posting. Much in the same way we don't need to sign people for the sake of signing them.

As TSH says, there's more than enough to explore. This thread isn't a default thread where you can just talk about anything. It has a purpose. If you want to talk about something completely unrelated, just go and do it.

All you're doing is sitting in a wallowing hump in one thread, getting each other down. Have a break; have a Kit Kat. Or some shit.

Defoe quoted on SSN as giving excuses about last years total of 4 goals, and why this year will be different.... Hummmm is the THFC PR machine is starting to prepare us for life with most of our 'current' strikers rather than any bright shiny new ones???

in fairness to JD YES he had a bad season last year, but the season before he was awesome. so at least deserves another season to show what he can do.

he was also on fire for England (came out of WC with some dignity) scored a hat-trick then got injured. who knows how his season might have went if he didn't get injured.

This is getting rather boring, been holded up in bed with gastric flu for the last week, no internet, and still no movement. Looks like levy is trying to get a few stars out of the bargain bucket again. We all laughed at liverpools recent transfers but at least they put their money were their mouth is. Levy just talks the talk. No major signings this summer equals no vdv, modric, bale next summer FACT!!!!!!

No, you aren't.
I don't share that view.
ITK (YES - ITK) says Levy likes to keep his cards close to his chest (and we have seen the evidence of this), so, for some reason, the whole ITK thread has become a focus for saying 'we don't know what is going on ergo it is a disaster'.
And I really don't buy this conspiracy that Levy would spent so much time, effort and money to get us so close, and then hatch all kinds of plans to prevent us from going any further.
Several ITKers have stated that Levy and everyone at the club are working incredibly hard to make a success out of this window. I see no reason to disbelieve this ITK.
So, can we all just accept that the real World, for a club in our position, trying to break into a higher level without a Sugar Daddy, involves fiding it difficult to attract players from that higher level, while continuing the careful financial management of assets (or penny-pinching) that has brought us to this elevated position in the first place:up:

THIS /debate IMHO!

I still cannot get over the fact that our overwhelming need is for a striker when we have Crouch, Defoe, Keane and Pav, all proven goalscorers.

If they just started to perform at their even 90% of their best we could devote our limited resources to improving other areas and seriously challenge :(

There has to come a time however, when the "uber optimists" have to stop getting semi's over how far we have come (which is not in question) and start concentrating on how far we still need to go in order to consistently challenge for a top four spot and heck why not even the title...given that it's 50 years since we last won it.

Many on these boards may have grown up on the mediocrity of the 1990's and early 2000's but some of us still remember when we used to compete even if it wasnt on a regular basis; and we remember too when we were one of the "top five". I understand fully that things have changed over the years, but what is wrong with demanding better? The last couple of seasons have been great. We can see the gap between ourselves and the teams above us closing. So what if fans want to see some action to close that gap still further?

It's not about being spoilt. It's about a desire to be the best you can be and to be taken seriously by your peers. If some people on these boards want to wallow in "look how far we have come" then that is fine. Most fans though want to see how far we can realistically go. What they dont want is to see the progress of the last few years pissed away so we can have a new transitional period in our history.

And I'm from Castlewellan :)
And without wanting to stereotype I have little doubt in my mind the gents in questions heralded from some part of Belfast.
Two months back couple of westies were going door to door posing as window cleaners touting for business. We accepted, they cleaned our windows, but never came back for payment and never cleaned them again. In hindsight, probably using this as an opportunity to have a snoop about. Bastids.
Anyway, I don’t want band, so staying on topic.
Nasri and Fabregas going in the next couple of days will force Arsenals hand into the transfer market. If we are realistically chasing Cahill, Samba, Ruiz, Mata etc…… all touted Arsenal targets we may get a fricking move on before we are outbid on transfer fee's and wages.
Its worrying that POTL has been relatively quiet on the striker front, and Roger Morgan has been virtually non-existant this window.
Original #10 has disappeared too.
Kranjcar to Sunderland would be an interesting one. They have a reasonable side there already. With Gardiner, Vaughan & Sessegnon already in midfield, a good finisher in Gyan and a very exciting strike partner in Wickham, coupled with the experienced O'Shea and Brown at the back, Sunderland could be a reasonable force next year. If they arent, and arent comfortably top 10, Bruce will probably have to go after the money he spent and amount of signings he has made.

No, he was good for a dozen games between August and November 09. He was then his usual cack self for the rest of 09/10 as well.

It's no longer about waiting for the next biennial purple patch either, as his pace has gone now and there's nothing else to his game.

I know we don't put twitter stuff into the RO but I'd consider RabbiCrackers stuff as ITK, just he posted it on twitter and not on FTL.

Patience people. Yes, we should have got our business done early but we didn't. Levy knows exactly what we need but it isn't always as easy as just picking a target and then paying what a club asks. The whole market is poised to jump into life and we will be right in the mix. I can tell you that we will improve and if we get our very top targets then you will all be bowing at the feet of Levy by the 31st of August. If these do not materialise (and there are no guarantees) then even our back up options are worth waiting for. We only intend on keeping one of either Pav or Defoe with Crouch going for sure. This means 2 new forwards for us. Could be Rossi and Llorente.....or it could mean Forlan and Adebayor.

We plan on signing a centre back too, a centre mid (Diarra or Parker) and an attacking midfielder.

Just stay calm laddies and lasses, we will not be disappointed again.
