Us and City actually have cordial relations at board level compared with most clubs. The fact we navigated the Corluka transfer minefield was testament of that.

The ideal situation would be for Marseille to get Drogba (who has promised to finish his career there anyway), giving us a free run on Adebayor.

I thought we bought Corluka from the old owners?

He recently said he wants to spend the rest of his days at Chelsea didn't he? It could all change, but I don't see him leaving yet when he's good enough to fight for a starting place, after all he is their best player imo.

Very beginning of the new owners reign wasn't it? Didn't we sign him on deadline day with Pav. Same day City bought Robinho.

I'm sure it was a couple of days before. Didn't the new owners come in on the last day of the window?

It was in the very final days of Shinawatra, but Garry Cook and others have worked through under both

I stand corrected then. But the point still stands the board has changed since then.

I seem to remember BEN insisting that it was done weeks in advance of being announced. Wasn't there something about his picture being found on the OS then removed long before the deadline?

Whatever, the Corluka deal was right on the cusp. Since then City have refused to do business with us over Bellamy for sure, and Richards possibly. That's a good relationship, I guess.

At least this time, they need to get rid of Adebayor to meet the FFP, but surely by still paying 100k per week for essentially nothing they'll still not make it?

So you're saying they are looking out for our best interests?

We've a relationship with Internacional yet they played hard ball over Sandro and it seems Leandro too.

I can't see City blocking Adebayor's move to us as in reality, were no longer rivals to them (as in they'll finish in the top 2).

It wasn't Ben. It was Robofan.

IIRC Corluka signed for us but it was Shinawatra's son using power of attorney who signed it off. Hughes didn't know about it, kicked up a fuss (as he was their first choice RB and best defender) and tried to withdraw. When City found out we were in a legally unchallengable position, we were actually very accomodating to let them get themselves out of the mess embarassment free. Corluka therefore had his photo taken in our kit about 3 weeks (and even a game or 2 I think) before we officially announced the signing.

I thought it was generally agreed now that Levy vetoed that for PR reasons, just like he did to Hoddle with Bowyer?

In terms of us and City working together, we also agreed the original Bellamy/Palacios carve up by agreeing not to bid against each other.

I am really glad Keane has finally moved on, now that it is on the OS. We can look forward to the incomings now!

When we were competing against City for Bellamy, they got wind that we were trying for Wilson and basically said let us have Bellamy or we'll get both, and we had no choice but to accept.

When we tried to buy him they screwed us over.

These are the facts as I have heard them (whether these have a bias I have no idea, but it didn't seem to be the case)

Yeah, the picture was taken on August 8th or something when it looked like it was all done. Only posted online on deadline day or thereabouts.
