hertyid: Not particularly groundbreaking but just been texting my guy. He had previously passed on some less than favourable feedback from some of the senior players about Yedlin's ability on the training ground. So in regards the Trippier news, I wrote that it was seemingly curtains for Yedlin.

He replied

"Or Walker?..."

trix: Have posted before mate was told his long term fitness/injuries are a real concern. I think if we could cash in now then we definitely should.
Hertyid said it could mean curtains for Yedlin and his source replied Walker? Am I reading that right?

ITK seems to be alligning wrt Walker. Multiple pieces of fitness and injury concerns. Jasper saying that IF Yedlin goes on loan, it would only be for 3-4 months and hertyids source saying it could mean curtains for Walker(if I was reading that right). Sounds as if Walker could be sold this summer or in January. If we could get £15-20m for Walker, I think we have to do it...

Bear in mind that JJ said Trippier would be competition (not a replacement) for Walker.

I read it the same way @yankspurs . I wouldn't be surprised if Walker was sold to Aston Villa if they put in a considerable bid (suspect Timmy would be interested).

Why would anyone pay that much for an injury prone player? :D

Kinda all makes sense.

Trippier comes in, Yedlin likely gets a semi-season loan, Walker is given that time to prove fitness, then reassess in January.

Hardly that simple though is it.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2705217/

"To assess the potential dangerous biological effects associated with MRI environment and procedures, several studies have been conducted over the past thirty years, often producing controversial results.

Most of these studies are relative to the biological effects of a particular electromagnetic source utilized in MRI, while there is a lack of knowledge about the combination of three MF components. Thus, there is a need to integrate the current findings to better understand the interactions between EMF related to MRI and biological systems."

"To our knowledge, our work [2] has been the first, and up to now the only one, demonstrating any genotoxic effects induced by MRI scans. We concluded that better auditing rules and a more informed consent will reduce the number of inappropriate examinations, thus avoiding detrimental effects both for public health and environment, it being understood that MRI procedures are relative more safe than any other clinical test using ionizing radiations. Anyway, until a wider knowledge of the potential risk related to diagnostic MRI is available, a prudent attention should be adopted in order to avoid unnecessary examinations, according to the precautionary principle."

Actually it is. Read the report.

"...the whole data does not confirm a risk hypothesis"

"Although preliminary evidence suggests that an increased MN frequency is associated with early events in carcinogenesis [3], our data cannot fully confirm the presence of health hazard from MRI, as the genetic damage also seems reversible: in fact, after 48 hrs, the MN number returned to the control values, suggesting that two cell divisions are enough to eliminate lymphocyte MN."

In fact the whole report repeatedly says that no effect or no conclusive effect has been observed and the only detrimental effect seen is reversible and disappears after 48 hours. Any level of risk is tiny and dwarfed by other environmental risks. You are in more danger from falling off the MRI table than the MRI itself.

So long as you have no metal implants and remember to take off your tinfoil hat beforehand MRIs are perfectly safe.

If you feel that triggering events which are found in carcinogenesis to be safe, that's fine, my own abstract interpretation of 'safe' differs from yours though.

I don't have a problem with either Wimmer or Trippier specifically but I do hope we go out and buy some genuine first teamers. They both remind me of the type of players we brought last summer, more players that flesh out the squad but do not really improve us. I would much prefer 2 quality signings than 6/7 of that type. Unfortunately, I'm not sure Levy sees it the same way as it is far riskier going all out for the marquee signings.

Villa have just acquired Micah Richards - so not sure that's a scenario that would stand up to too much scrutiny.

There's a big difference between events which are found in carcinogenesis and events that cause carcinogenesis. In addition the report itself states that the process is reversible and is indistinguishable from the control after 48 hrs. While everything carries some element of risk you are less at risk from the same time spent in a MRI machine than you would be outside in moderate sunshine.

The "less than favourable feedback" bit is a tad worrying. I refuse to believe he's been that bad. If he has then it looks more like curtains for him rather than walker.

I wonder who the senior players were? Hugo is the only 1 we got isn't he.
