We certainly need somebody to provide for Soldado. Was pretty evident yesterday that he can't do it all on his own.

I can't help but wonder just how well Defoe would do with a Willian in the team, but that's for another thread.

Postcode for Willian Road......;)

This has made me V Happy. Bale Going is not a shock anymore, ready for it.

Squad is already stronger than last year.

Wake up Monday Morning. We get 3 Points. The Scum get Nil Points, and we have signed Willian.

Why? When Anzhi announced their fire-sale we may have just thought we can leave that deal till later in the window to ensure a good price and continued working on other potential signings like Lamela, but Liverpool's interest may have led us to re-evaluate our position and move for him now. I'm not saying we will get him, but to say that we now have no chance doesn't seem right either.
Where did I say we had no chance? I said I doubt we are getting him that's all.

How can you said his assists don't excite you yet he got 15 assists last season, 17 the season before and currently has 3 in 4?

I also genuinely believe that Willian is a big game player. He'll relish the chance to prove himself against the leagues best.

His performances in last seasons Champions League were exceptional and productive.

Is anyone else a little concerened that if Bale leaves then we still don't have many players that will get into double figures goal wise?

If Bobby replaces GB's goals (so many of his came out of nothing where as Soldado will need better service). Then are we that much stronger on the goal front? Paulinho and Chadli should chip in with a few as will Willian if he comes, although he has never been someone who scores many.

This really isn't a criticism I just feel another player who could get us 15 goals a season, be that from out wide or wherever would make a massive difference. Easier said than done I know.

Fristly we do not know if Bale would have scored 20+ goals again this season, maybe, probably who knows but we have Soldado in the ranks know as you say who has been purchased to score 20+ goals per season.

The way we will set up now means that there will be ore of a threat from the AM's. Chadli has goals in him as well as Siggy, Dembele, Paulinho, and the new addition (Hopefully Willian) so I do not fear for lack of Goals.

TBH would be surprised & upset if we did not increase on our goal tally this year.

and as I say, we are basing opinion on an assumption that Bale would have scored 20+ goals for us again this season.

You'd certainly think so and in the now likely event of Bale leaving along with several other departures, I don't think we'll get financially out muscled by Liverpool if we are serious about getting him.

I'd be surprised if Moyes isn't considering him for United as he would be an ideal purchase for them out wide and would rack up the assists with RvP looking like he's continuing his steller form from last year.

At a very rough estimate, wages off the weekly bill are (in thousands):

Gallas 50
Bentley 50
Hudd 40
Livermore 20
Parker 50
Caulker 30
BAE 30
Others I've forgotten 20

Total: 290,000
Or 15 million per year.

The 4 new signings look about 8 million - so there's about 7 million left for wages.

Willian will be a failure in England Arshavin style, trust me.
This bothers me as well. The few players imported from the Russian league have not exactly covered themselves with glory in the PL yet, have they?

Doubt it. Different kind of players. For a starters Willian works his arse of, also better on the ball. Speaks the same lingo as team mates and manager as well(if Spurs)

Little bit, however if Bale is replaced by creator in the mould of what Willian is supposed to be, then I'd guess Siggy could hit nice figures.

Totally different players. Willian's game is far more suited to the style of football we want to play and even to the PL as he has a very good work rate.

As for coming from a weak league, the phrase "you can only beat what is in front of you" comes to mind.

I have seen Willian play about once. He was very good. I have seen Lamela play a grand total of 0 times.
Yet I would prefer Lamela. I dont even know why.

Hoping im not a racist.

Why?

Arshavin failed because he list his hunger which is something synonymous with Russian players.

Willian is desperate to break into the Brazilian team for the WC. I'm not having that excuse about playing in a 'poor league'- if he's a good player he will succeed anywhere just as long as he has the correct mentality and there is nothing to suggest he doesn't.
