When has he ever strengthened a direct rival for the title?

And don't say when he sold Mata to Man U - that was in the Jan transfer window in Moyes first season when it was clear they were a shambles and no threat.

They may not have been a threat in that very month but there's no guarantee they weren't going to be a few months later.

He also let Petr Cech go to Arsenal which is fairly significant strengthening of a rival.

I look forward with great interest to seeing how this 'who Mourinho sells to' stuff unfolds. The levels of insight in this thread can often times be very illuminating. Unlike the levels of basic comprehension which are almost non existent.

It's almost a rampant shame that the debate will almost certainly result in casualties and the crying shame of it is, it'll be friendly fire, but done with love and a smidgin of regret. Any bans would contain so many ingredients it'd be almost like the great british bake off, picture Mary Berry being done hard from behind by Mel, wearing a strap on, only you're Mary Berry. You can call me Mel.

That's the nice and slightly perverted way of saying it.....if I were in a bad mood (which these days is quite often) it'd have been either give it a fucking rest or you're out on your ear you ****s.

The thing is though Mourinho clearly doesn't fancy Martial and although he won't want to strengthen a rival, he may not really be of that opinion.

Remember their squad was hardly brimming of attacking talent last season yet he still didn't start Martial regularly - which tells you all you need to know regarding Mourinho's opinion on him.

Jessie frigging Lindgard was starting ahead of him.

Mourinho might be trying for another big signing before the window shuts and has been told he has to make room for such. And if its another attacker who looks the most expendable?

Martial obviously.

His comments in the press recently also suggest that their willing to entertain acceptable offers for him.

That's convenient but I'm sure Poch will be including him...unless this 'game changer' was out of the blue and could mean 5 in.
If I remember rightly last summer Poch said I want 2 more in signed 3 including Pau I could've completely made it up but for some reason I remember that hahaha

Roses days are numbered at spurs now.after this injury I don't think he would be the same player. If a deal is doable for a swap. Fuck it lets do it. Davies was more than capable of filling in last season.

Also interesting to track the timeline on this....

- reports in press that us and Inter have an approach rejected by Man U
- Danny Rose blows up
- ITK states a deal we didn't think possible is now back on....

All lines up but in fact the 'game changer' could be either Martial or Rose's rant to the press......

Just concerned Inter don't come back sniffing around.....could be a way to go on this.

Sanchez, Foyth, Gazza and one more.

I think there's a chance we pass on Barkley if I'm being honest, if it's 3 months as quoted by the papers then he should be back November in which case you may as well wait till January where they have no choice but to sell him at half the price.

I can't help but think this forward we're after is nothing but a dream as Lemar would cost too much, Man Utd would never sell Martial to us without getting something back and they're the only two names that spring to mind. Then again that's probably just the salt I spilt all over my ITK, and the hurt from previous windows :p

I find it difficult to see the scenario in which we get Martial without Danny Rose being at least in some form, part of that deal. It's a toss up. Martial, without a shadow of a doubt would improve us, but difficult to imagine Man Utd happily strengtheing us.

Deal is probably possible if there were some sort of swap or arrangement involved that saw Danny go the other way. Could work - both clubs would be taking a risk. It's very interesting.

If Martial can be done for anything near what United initially paid for him, then he should be a no brainer.
I'd be happy with a net spend on the sale of Rose to them. I dint want to use the phrase "player swap" as that never really happens, but essentially if that did happen here I think it would be a good bit of business for both sides, especially if they also get Perisic.

It's quid pro quo though in this scenario. We are also strengthening them by selling Rose to them. The question to ask is do they think they will get enough of a team improvement from signing Rose to ensure that they aren't worried about us. Mourinho seems to think a player in Rose's position is key for them. Also we may go and sign a player as good as Martial anyway and in that scenario Utd are in a worse position as we still have Rose.

I don't think Forth is considered a first team buy at this stage, so I can see a further three on top of him

Our CBs are the basic strength of our system, our goals conceded column directly relates to our annual improvement. We would be mad to sell Toby or Jan, the wing backs are another story.

If Rose does depart and a wide attacker or conventional winger appears we might switch to 4-3-3 or back to 4-2-31. Wing backs are fine when we are dominating and can press teams back in their half but sides like Liverpool and City showed how we struggle against teams push our wing backs into a defensive mode .

57m including addons. Their base fee was 36m. The rest were '25 goals in a season','Ballon D'or nomination' and '25 caps for France'. Big question though is how much we value Rose. But given Rose outburst, we may be willing to do a deal.
May be the reason in going back for RS?
