Has he not done that with Tom Carroll? He made 14 appearances for us last season, I'd suggest that AVB will happily give youngsters a chance, IF they're good enough. As has been mentioned on here a few times now, how many members of this site wanted us to get Sahin, and were then pissed off with AVB because he (Sahin) ended up at Liverpoo? How many of those pissed off members of this site have since come out & said "I'm now happy to go along with AVB's judgement when it comes to a player"? I think pretty much all of those people have happily admitted they were wrong.

So my point is, IF Townsend (or any other youngster) isn't going to be given a chance by AVB, I'd suggest there's a perfectly good reason for it?

I don't really feel he has shown his hand yet in that regard just yet, as was kind of evidenced by him using Hudd on a few occasions when he could have used Carroll last season.

But I did love seeing Carroll get some minutes and Caulker.

At this point we can only go off conjecture, and say for instance, we sign Pjanic or McCarthy (who i really like but feel we don't really need) then players like Carroll and Holtby get further away from the team. Or if we sell Townsend (which by no means is certain) then another good young player will be moved on who could possibly save on a replacement from outside.

I am not pissed off with AVB; I never have been and actually like him but feel we are still to find out about his attitude to our younger players. I personally feel it is time we put a little more trust in a few of them to make up part of our squad, and there are currently a few options from within for AVB and we will find out more after this season. His reasons will ultimately be qualified as he has access to the day to day performance and attitude of the players but you only have to look at United to see a club that over the years have at least given players a chance to step up before making a decision on them and from the outside looking in, I feel Townsend deserves that, has earned that even hence my comment about it being "bonkers".

Money up front in one lump ? Get fucking real.
If it this is in response to Benteke, this may be our best option in the long term as it will mean a lower fee and no sell clause but we got ask ourselves, will we sell him if another club comes calling, i.e. one of the giants

No he doesn't he wants gametime or chances to break in to the team which weren't given last season before his loan, well thats what his dad says
AVB has been coming down hard on Townsend and Parker during pre-season. Not going into details, but what looks good to fans doesn't seem to look good in AVB eyes.

Without wishing to bang the same drum as always...I think Levy knows how to negotiate.

Unfortunately other clubs know what he's like, so probably add a few million on top of their ideal price anyway.

All the negotiating probably does is create the illusion that Levy is getting the price down. If I wanted to sell Levy some lemonade for 50p I'd have to start negotiations at £10, then deal with three weeks of negotiations before selling it to him for 50p.

Parker doesn't look good in the fans eyes, my Mum and over or undercook a pass and she can still do a pirouette too.

Worried about Andros though, I thought he was very promising

2 months gone since our last league game

Managed to release two players and bought one.... things again moving slowly. So much deadwood around (Livermore, Huddle, Parker, Naughton.... ) .... and day after day nothing happens. Some days news are better, some days new aren't.

It's just hard to imagine how can you negotiate a deal for several months!?

But i guess there is another big week ahead of us.

Townsend's issue seems to be putting his head down and charging forward, trying to hold on to the ball too long.

I can't go into details. But Townsend and Parker have been pulled up on many occasions during training sessions.

Not saying Townsend is not promising but obviously AVB is not happy with certain things he's doing.

EDIT: During Pre-Season

Bit silly if you think Levy isn't aware of such tactics.

I believe he has a price/deal in mind for every player we are interested in and they tries to do the best deal he can with those limitations in mind. He will not pay more than he thinks a player is worth and why should he?

I asked earlier when someone was praising him for beating his man 14 times in one match. What did he do after beating his man ? No good beating an opposition player 14 times and then doing little with the ball afterwards.
