Obviously we are concerned about losing players the ilk of Eriksen and Toby. It is almost impossible to replace them with like for like, but if we can recruit replacement players of reasonable quality, Poch will be able to improve them and / or devise plays to maximise their usefulness to the team. After all our current position in the league is more the sum of the parts than reliance an individual part.

Just think back when Dembele wasn't doing much for us as an attacking MF and Poch brilliantly turned him into a holding MF; Wanyama wasn't an awe inspiring buy and Poch turned him into a beast. And to cap it all, when we were so dismayed at having no replacement for the crocked up Dembele and Wanyama, Poch waves his magic wand again and Sissoko seems to be in a trance these days.

My take is be concerned but never lose hope when Poch is still with us.

I do wonder whether we will actually look for a centre back if or when Toby leaves. Certainly Juan and Davinsonnare very exciting and you wonder if young Japhet is seen as worthy or a first team squad place in the near future.

Yes he keeps saying football is dynamic. But it’s difficult not the think about the potential for missed opportunities and the position we could be in, especially when Liverpool’s points total is the result of significant transfer activity. There is also a feeling amongst us that our best players need to feel they can achieve their ambitions at this club, and maybe also with the manager. The solution to this is almost always increased investment in the playing staff

I know some will say there are other ways to improve the squad, but we’ve benefitted greatly from past investments and will need to refresh our midfield soon.
Significant transfer activity “after” they sold their best player to Barca.

True but we’re not getting 140 million squidlies for Eriksen

A lot of Coutinho's fee was add one, right?! Still think Eriksen is twice the player but needs to sign a new contract for us to get the fee he deserves. Feels like he was born for Spurs though... crosses fingers.

Also whilst Liverpool got £140m for Coutinho I think they still spent more as they bought Keita, Van Dijk, Saqiri, Alisson and Fabinho
Yes, so we’re talking shitloads for Coutinho and spending even more shitloads. Which is my point really

And that's only considering transfer fee. Their wages must have gone up tremendously.

Or perhaps Poch saw things in grealish's game that he felt he could develop more so than Madison. When you have a manager who's biggest strength is improving young players that must be taken into account.

Agreed, look at the position Eriksen has played recently. Grealish is far more suited to a deeper role than Maddison. Yes he's far less likely to bang one in from 25 yards but he can dictate a game, is an adept dribbler and isn't afraid to put a foot in. Perfect for this diamond we've been playing.

I think Poch would have been great for Grealish. Would happily see us go back but that release clause seems too high.

I wonder if mrs A&C brought him a new Ban Stick dipped in Dog Poo? One thing I don’t wonder is if he’ll be waving it about before the TW opens.

We are now really close to being very successful on the pitch after a bloody long journey, unfortunately this means all our players and manager are getting noticed more than ever. Everyone wants a piece of us.
Sonny, Dele, Harry, Christian would get into any team in the world so we just have to buckle up and enjoy the journey and the success when it comes or you will kill yourself with worry about what might happen.
The new stadium and all the other facilities are top quality so we are hoping that will keep the players happy and attract others.
Football is dynamic as MP says.

I agree with this but wasn’t it ever thus?

Off the pitch we have invested and look very attractive.

However if we want to stop the cycle from breaking then we need to show our manager that we are serious, by investing ON the pitch.

Harry getting Saha/Nelsen when we had the chance of Hazard etc. Same old, same old.

Let’s see if this time it’s different.

Maddison is a much quicker passer of the ball; watch him, he knows what he's doing before he's received it. Grealish seems to dwell so much on the ball.

How people are posting in here now gives us a good idea how they’re going to when things get hectic when the window opens and who to keep an eye on. He might not be banning yet but I can guarantee he’s taking names. Wish lists, formations, discussions of players we’ve not had ITK about, etc.

Mark my words Choudary of Leicester will be the next big thing in home grown midfielders closely followed by Rice.
To get one of those two would be a massive coup in my opinion .

The coutinho fee for Eriksen isnt going to happen, I explained it before in the player thread, look at contract length and precedent of fees of players in a similar position to Eriksen.
