James McCarthy?

What a comedown from the Schneiderlin and Kramer level targets.

Doesn't have the potential to turn into a 'top' player like Rabiot either.

I'm not saying he's a bad player but it's not overly inspiring stuff. But I guess if he's a target of Pochs then we should back it anyway.

Agree. I wouldn't mind if it were a modest fee, but if it's quite a bit more than £13m then that could be £20m - maybe I'm stuck in the past, but I'd want a special player if were were going for our third highest transfer - not only because it's a lot of pressure for a relatively sheltered player

He was plan Z by ITK accounts, at this stage i am not believing we are there yet.

Guessing because he was dismissed by ITK in the past (which fits with one of the ITKs we have had), plays a position that we are looking to fill and the Liverpool Echo has said we are interested.

There was an ITK saying, as an answer to a direct question, McCarthy might very well be who we end up with. Liked by Poch, Mitchell and all at the club.

I like McCarthy but i think he tends to miss a lot of games with injuries.

McCarthy is just unfashionable IMO so some on here will complain despite not really seeing him play. I like him a lot, and his performance against United was fantastic and particularly memorable. Anyways, I take the stance that if he's what Pochettino and Mitchell want, then we should back the decision. From what I've seen on here and other sites, the statement 'we need to back Pochettino' is suddenly forgotten when we've been linked with certain players.

I doubt it will happen anyway, unless a deal can be done including Lennon to significantly reduce the price.

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember a quote..can't remember from who; possible poch stating we were after established premier league players? I am not inspired by McCarthy, not seen all that much of him, or perhaps just goes unnoticed in the games I watch which isn't a good sign

Maybe Mitchell has forgotten to adjust his magic box from Southampton mode to Tottenham. McCarthy is the sort of level of player I'd have thought Southampton would be aiming to replace Schneiderlin with.
We're bigger than them, better than them and should be aiming higher than them regarding incomings.

He's been a let down but mainly due to the number of injuries. Personally I thought he was good in first season but needs to be moved on now
