Overdraft confirmed by the Goat.

From The Goat: We've just had it confirmed that we have in place our regular deadline day overdraft of around £40m.

Ah right I see.....just seems a bit dumb to me to refer to anybody whining as that. I doubt you would do it for black/Chinese/indian people or you would be deemed offensive.

Not being uptight or anything, just personal view that's all.

The original question was a legit question, I thought I had missed something or some kind of cryptic clue

It's an old expression that I happen to find funny regardless of what the PC Brigade "choose" to find offensive.

Is it more offensive than being called a Bastard?

Our main deficiencies last season were in defence. We've signed three defenders. That's the second most important accomplishment this summer.

The third most important achievement was signing two quick attackers, as we were badly short of pace.

The most important transfers this summer were the ones that haven't happened: Lloris and Kane.

I'd put the as-yet-unresolved need for a defensive midfielder somewhere between "defenders" and "pacy attackers".

Dier got motm against everton, we also have milos for cup games.

I'm a bit bemused why people keep insisting that we should sign a 4th striker. We had one to starft with and we've signed two more, either of whom can play as a central attacker or on either side iof a front 3.

And we have another striker whom we can't get rid of.

Relying on Dier to cover defensive midfield all season seems rather risky and his use in our opening 4 matches seems to represent an acknowledgement by Pochettinio that the pairing of Bentaleb and Mason, talented tbhough they are, does not protect the defence effectively. I'd rather see a good defensive midfielder arrive. We have enough strikers.

Njie. and Son in particular, are not proper forwards. They're much more wide forwards. Both could probably do a job in the short term but relying on either for any length of time is madness. Njie is a kid who has very little top flight experience as it is.

There's a bloody good reason why we'll end up with Berahino.

It's transfer deadline day and people are talking about gingers and racism. Give it a rest, or swap mobile numbers and discuss it and leave everyone else to endure the rest of the transfer news or lack of it

That's before everyone around us, including the teams below, strengthened. Pool, Swansea etc

They haven't "strengthened". They have "signed players". The first does not always follow from the second, as we found after we sold Bale and signed 7 replacements with the money.

Liverpool, in particular, have a recent history of buying expensive players to "strengthen" their squad, who end up doing nothing of the sort.

im sorry but it will be a complete failure, you can't rely on a 20 year old and CB to provide your defensive midfield cover
We have sold Capoue, Stambouli and Paulinho. Alli and Dier will probably do a better job, Winks also possibly as Paulinho offered nothing. It is far from ideal and it would annoy me if we were not to address it, but it's hardly a disaster of a window overall if you consider that we've strengthened the defence and hopefully will have signed two proven attacking players as well as the promising Njie.

So, some people will be positive, some people (like you, based on your capital letters) will be negative.

That's a new piece of information!

Quick, let me put that in the Deadline Day Ticker thread ...

Yea, because I'm the only one going off topic ...

As good as I think Dier Could be at dm, it makes no sense to sell 4 midfielders and not get at least 1 in. We need other options we can't rely on an inexperienced 21 year old to be the only possibly defence to attack linchpin.

I thought Dier had a very good game v Everton. If he can pick up the basics and improve a bit on his decision-making, then he could save us a lot of heartache. And Bentaleb is ok when he doesn't lose concentration. Priority has to be HK backup for me.

David, they are not strikers. They are wide players who can play there- just like Chadli. By your logic, Chadli is a striker as well.

Which is exactly what a one striker system like ours where there is already a strong first choice needs.

Arsenal, ManU and Chelsea are pretty much operating in similar circumstances.

It's incredibly rare, not to mention extremely costly to have top quality back up strikers sitting around twiddling their thumbs.
