Why do i feel so underwhelmed by SB? We are going to be spending circa £20m on him and I am sure that there are better players out there for that money.
.

Think you need to look at the Market. £20m doesn't buy you what it used to. SB isn't\wasn't available in the first place, we've had to pay up!

I know what you mean but just dont think £20m is that much anymore, HK has had one decent season in the Prem and we'd all be going mental if Spurs sold him for less than £50m. Look at What Chelsea are being asked to pay for Stones, or what Sterling went to City for. What have they done that really justifies those Prices?

Its modern football and the UK market that messes with our heads

Poch 'understands'. Not quite the same as 'the club is pleased to announce'.

I'm still confident though.

Thank God.
We haggled hard. Otherwise Berahino would have been here some time ago, I'm sure.

If agreed, seems ridiculous he might not be in the squad for our next match! Don't see how that helps us or WBA.

Well Khilari, we need to take our time with the newbies.. It's the same with N'jie and Trippier, they'll just be overawed...

Looking forward to an exciting week, with all the ups and downs.
Would like to see Berahino if signed before Friday in the squad for the weekend.
There is no point in trying to settle them in gently, we need them available.

That is what the English footballers price is. Completely agree it is not about justification, in most cases it is about potential, but does SB have real potential? Is he going to really contribute to our first 11, as I would say that paying that amount of money for a squad player or an option seems high.

Fuck me if he's not in the squad poch is a lunatic. We've got one striker ffs

So if a player that hasn't been signed yet is hypothetically not in the squad next weekend, Poch is a lunatic?

Right...

I could pick a few holes in your reasoning and maybe even come up with a few reasons why he wouldnt be in the squad.

But given that he isnt even our player, it seems a bit pointless...

Have I missed something here? Have we signed and announced Berahino?

Or am I witnessing the usual lemming-like rush to complain based on the wording of some ITK?

And before we get yet another tranch of posts about the virtues of Berahino as a player, this is a conversation for the player thread. Ta.

I'm sure if he is signed in time he could well be in the squad.

But Poch is, potentially, a lunatic if things don't pan out that way?

All encouraging noises, yesterday and this morning, but lets not jump the gun until we at least hear that we've agreed a fee with West Brom - that's the biggest hurdle of the lot.

How is it that a high proportion of the posters here seem to consider SB to be a journeyman striker, unworthy of a £20m price-tag and a place in our starting team, whilst the rest are scared shitless that we're going to be gazumped by one of the Mancs?

Regardless of who is or isn't on our list I think we've reached that stage where clubs unwilling to sell will not be pushed over by key players acting up. Sotons board proved last summer they can stand up. Therefore think we can rule out Wanyama. Whether he was actually relevant to our dm targets or not I don't know. Coz I know fookarl.

On the other hand the market has known wba are willing to sell Bera for some time now. I can understand why a few nervous types remain concerned at the risk of a late intervention from either Manc club. I am too. Looks like we have all our eggs in this basket and the few alternatives mooted do not whet the appetite. The stakes are so high.

Bera in and a squeaky win over Everton means we are back on track. Some will again forgive and forget the boards strategy will have cost us vital August points. I will wonder why we didn't get him done earlier, by passing up on yet another defensive signing to help balance the books. (I know we concede loads of goals but that's because of our propensity to dangerously give the ball away and our lack of help for the fbs on the flanks.)
Well they didn't stand up very well considering all the players they sold. The only reason they didn't sell Schneiderlin is because they already lost several players, yet they still sold him this window. They're a selling club.

As for Berahino, this is all set up now. They have rejected our bid officially to show their fans they are fighting to keep him. Now the manager has left him out of the last squad saying his head isn't right. Now all we need is an official transfer followed by Pulis saying "his head was turned and there was nothing we could do".

Exactly this! Given what Paul Smith said, I think his time scales are looking spot on. Announcement tomorrow seems right and then unveiled at the Lane next Saturday evening on live TV. Until an ITK says he will be in the squad or not, its neither the place to speculate about that or right to do so.

Surely I can't be the only one who see's a last minute Man City/Chelsea bid on SB ;-)

But, a CF isn't just the answer to our problems, as we saw with Soldado, we need people who can create for the CF, something we've had long standing problems with.

I think if we signed him early in the week and he then wasn't in the squad it would be fair to ask questions. He's had a full pre-season, he knows the league and more than anything, we've been a bit crap so far this season so anything to try and change that would be a bonus.

But if he doesn't come in until later in the week I can understand the delay. Moving clubs isn't a simple process so if he's still completing all of those formalities on the Friday then I can see why his focus may not be there for a game on Saturday.

Why don't we all just wait and see what happens before getting our knickers in such a twist that they won't ever be wearable again.
