No. We obviously aren't just signing players because they're home grown.

We are, apparently, looking for a wide forward that can also play up front. Check

He is, apparently, well regarded by Poch and has been after him for some time.

So it's clearly a combination and he ticks many boxes.
All good points, I don't disagree. I was simply saying I don't particularly rate him.

Poch wanted Zaha the very season he took over, and every season that has never changed.
I think that speaks volumes about the impact he could have on the team. I for one, think he's a very talented player. Albeit erratic and without a sharp footballing brain. Both of which Poch can work on. I'd like to think there's a really good chance we can bring him in.

cheers Herc, great insights. Would be thrilled with Zaha, would hate to see him go elsewhere in town.

I'm not panicking in defence, we have options if Toby leaves or rots, but CM? The thought of Wanyama and Sissoko taking the field at St James' fills me with dread.

Neither do I but that's mainly because I'm crying and acting like a little kid because I want Martial. Martial doesn't seem to be happening so I'm finally caving in.

All the talk is about signings, but don't we have to sell to buy? Levy will be out on a limb if he spends the big bucks before getting any sales done.

If 2 of the 3 are indeed to be grealish and zaha, the number 3 has to be, just has to be, a top top quality cm. optimistic I know but can’t see any other way if we’re supposedly spending big, regardless of outgoings.

I'm not caving yet. I think we need more brains in CM, not more speed on the wing. But hopefully it's not either/or.

Those having panic attacks re Grealish. And to some of you it was a meh signing. I fully expect him to be cemented (at friggin last) before window closes. Like it or not, new investors changed a lot of things. And talk FFP as much as you want. I understand that that is not as big an issue as outsiders are making it out to be. Take note#THFC
I would absolutely not panic if we didn't sign Grealish.

Whether people like it or not, signing zaha would be a statement signing. Big money, and adds danger to the attacking 3rd. Allows us to play on the counter against teams that want to dominate possession. If he's the lesser of the 2 options, then I'll be delighted

One would assume Grealish is the third so an AMC. What I wonder is how does this three get effected by any potential sales. Most notably Dembele or Toby. One would assume they would need replacing resulting in a pretty hectic two weeks.

If we sign a CM I’m assuming that would be the Dembele replacement, I meant we’d have him, Winks (who has just agreed new terms), Wanyama,, Dier and itk today suggests Onomah too, with Sissoko, Eriksen, Dele to boot if need be.

Putting those last couple of bits re: Grealish together it sounds like Villa are holding out for more money than we had thought we'd be able to get him for before the takeover. I can only assume that the decision that Levy will be wrestling with if we can't close the deal soon, referenced in Herc's first post, would have to do with the knock-on effects the extra money for Grealish would have on our other targets.

If it's a choice between Grealish at an inflated fee and a second-choice CM, or our first-choice mystery CM target and the possibility of no Grealish, I would personally prefer the latter.

Grealish would be a welcome addition and is the type of opportunistic signing of a young English talent that the club has thrived on, but with Lamela's new contract we are not crying out for another option at the No. 10 position. We are crying out for a genuine first XI-quality CM to slot in for Dembele, on the other hand. Let's hope Levy is able to strike the right balance.

Poch wanted Zaha the very season he took over, and every season that has never changed.
If Poch really wants Zaha that badly then I’m surprised we are even looking at Martial or waiting on a response from this unnamed third. I get why it didn’t happen in the past but at this point, if the price etc is set, then I’m suprised it’s not done and dusted. I guess it’s all financial issues as per. Thanks for the info as ever Herc.
