Just a thought - could the reason that Vertonghen and Remy insisting that they will still join spurs despite no champs league and the reason that Levy is trying to get deals done early be because they know who the manager will be for the new season? I know it's conjecture, but you have to admit, it does seem odd. We are normally late players in the transfer window and only home-based players over 28 say they want to join Spurs (because of Redknapp).
Didn't Remy say he would only join Spurs if Harry is the Manager?
Maybe, I don't think I have. Its very odd. And these aren't Harry-like signings either. VdV and Sandro weren't.
What's a Harry like signing? Harry loves all great players, he just hasn't had a chairman like Daniel Levy who can sign these types of player before.

VDV sure loves playing for Harry.

I'm really truly hoping the Rio ITK is a loads of bull. Or that they were talking about England and Rio's retirement. I don't want Rio at Spurs unless he's on a losing side playing against Spurs

Hmmm... I am just not convinced.

Harry's had Levy for 3 seasons now, yet his signings have been very safe at best. I mean challenging for the title at one point in Jan and we sign Nelsen and Saha?

For the great man manager that he is, Harry lacks in 2 things, tactics and balls in the transfer market. He doesn't want to stick his name to any player over the £10m mark that is not prem experienced. How are we ever going to get the quality players in that we all know will suit Spurs down to the ground if it's like this?

Don't buy all this Harry transfer rubbish. I know he has had some mare, and I know he has his favourites but to be fair we have signed some quality and seen players like walker and Sandro become important parts of the team for the future and even managed to make a player out of Livermore. The guy deserves way more credit than he gets.

He has openly stated his desire to bring the likes of Dzeko, Torres, Rossi to name a few to the club. He isn't the one signing the players though is he?

The way I see it is that Levy spent so much money before Harry arrived that he had to tighten his spending. We have a new Stadium planned afterall. Nothing more nothing less.

Wait.... I though JJ was going to post as the Goat.

Does that mean where we see ITK from JJ it is in fact from the Goat?

Or did JJ refuse to post as the Goat when he realised that it also meant he had to spend all summer in A&C's dungeon cellar being fed bits of lettuce, and coming into and out of rohypnol induced comas to find he had been heavily lubricated with Lurpak?

Agree... It has always been about the right players at the prices we have been looking at and availability of said players. Too often people on here associate not spending 30m after saying we wanted to and getting Saha as us being stingy or playing safe.

For 30m I am bloody glad, it's a lot of money and if the clubs in question wanted most up front for their star players then guess what, we ain't gonna manage it, or if the player wants over 100k a week, same thing. HR and Levy identify quality, what they don't do is financially bankrupt the club to do it (or at least Levy doesn't).

Now,you know you need some cover, the players you want you can't have, what then? Get no one and sulk? Nelsen and Saha did what was needed and no more, they filled a gap.

Now you could criticise and say well if top target A was unavailable, why did we not grab someone like Cisse like Newcastle did. Well for one we don't know that Cisse wasn't being courted by Newcastle whilst we were trying for say Rossi or Remy or Llorente and thus we were already too late. We also don't know that these players or clubs didn't say, hey, next summer lets talk we think we can deal then.

What then?! You know you have your targets available to you later on, still gonna splash millions of pounds on players who will get benched later on?

I speculate just as much of course, but we all are... so lets keep perspective and try and deal with what info we have in moderation.

No, Harry has spent about £100m since he has been with Spurs, mainly in the first 2 years or so up to 2010/11 - includes the likes of Sandro, VDV, Walker, Naughton transfers which Harry may not have instigated.

These 2 posts are giving me doubts about my opinion of Harry in the transfer market. However, there have been some absolutely ludicrous decisions made.

Letting Bassong, Corluka, Pienaar and Pav go out on loan to only then bring in Saha and Nelsen and complain that the squad was threadbare (and looked tired) was an awful decision. THAT coupled with the unsettling of him and England really tore us apart.

I am happy to give him 1 more season in order to see what he does with the money we have this time round and also whether he can commit throughout the whole season and improve on his decision making in and out of matches.

You make good points. Re Cisse, Harry has said that 'his people' looked at Cisse and decided not to follow up on their interest, decided he wasn't good enough. Football is all about opinions, and suspect that Harry regrets 'his people' got that one wrong (at least on the basis of the last half season)

That's not a lot of money compared to our rivals, and looking at that list we had some pretty good value. Also, selling the likes of Crouch and Wilson recouped some of teh cash.

Ohhh, thanks guys! (y)

Edit: just guy now as Ravo deleted his post!

I wanted to give Vertonghen a surname, but couldn't think of a goodie - so deleted. Will come back to it shortly. I think (s)he needs a surname.
