Forgive me for being a little slow here but when did king retire?? Did i miss something whilst away?

I'm fairly sure it was on the Sky Sports News Yellow Ticker a month or so ago. Whether it was ever 100% confirmed, I'm not sure.

There was something on the OS at the same time though.

The Chelsea spell doesn't particularly bother me with AVB, there are mitigations I think, and a few months is also no great time to judge a coach. Of course there is a debate whether he is the right man, in a short career so far it is always going to be a risk - I personally like his talk, but can his walk cash the cheques his talk writes? Whatever people say about Porto it was still a great achievement with the European trophy, and going unbeaten.

You only have to look at the likes of Arsene Wenger - relegated at AS Nancy Lorraine (love a team that can boast 2 women's names in their club name!) he then went on to revolutionise the Premiership. Frank Rijkaard took Sparta Rotterdam down then won the Champions League with Barcelona. Alex Ferguson was allegedly a scrappy header away from getting the chop at Utd. A few iffy months at Chelsea is not my determining factor, although should be considered naturally (and trust Levy will be highly thorough in recruiting).

I like his ethos, the game he wants to play, his coaching experience in England gaining his qualifications, has tasted the EPL already and due to his meticulous, analytical nature will have learnt a great deal, and also fired a desire to prove the doubters wrong. I have reservations, and with a short managerial career so far we don't have much to go on, but I think it is a gamble that could pay rich dividends - to dare is to do and all that.

Summary of JJ's Info :

Q Are you able to give a hint at strikers we might get in - from the Premiership class ones (eg Wolves Fletcher) to the Falcao's - are we likely to sign 2 or 3 strikers of the latter calibre ?
JJ Aiming for the latter

Q can we rule out people like Falcao and hulk >
JJ Wages are ridiculous so yes rule them out

Q Is this icelander the replacement for modric or we after more central midfield players ?
JJ Hopefully more !

Q You mentioned earlier that chances of Remy / DeJong were slim. Is this because they are not interested or because we are now in a position to aim for something even better ?
JJ Different reasons for both

On Manager - JJ non commital on identifying the person (perhaps for obvious reasons)

with our two main DMs out we still have Huddlestone and Livermore (and Jenas for now :cautious:), plus Vertonghen could play there if necessary

your having a laugh there bud. i admire the postivity and im trying real hard to be upbeat and positive about few weeks ahead but please dont start me on jenas and thudd playing together in the center ! newcastle lads will eat those two for breakfast and shit them both out before second half starts!!

if we get those 2 positions right before season starts im happy , end of , no matter who is in charge. dont believe for one second if verts signs that spurs will throw him into playing center midfield by way . he will be bought as central defender and maybe at times playing left back againts better teams.

Hulk & Falcao ridiculous wages. Higuain is staying at Madrid and would only leave for ridiculous wages also, no chance.
Dont know about Muller but would think the same.

I bet we are probably aiming at strikers in the kind of Huntelaar, Adebayor, Gomis, good players but on a lower level that Falcao, Higuain, etc.

Just my opinion, but Higuain is defo not leaving Madrid and never on loan.
About an hour ago on talksport a journo said he has heard we are after Huntelaar. However I have heard this for the past 5 years.

April is the cruellest month, breeding

Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing

Memory and desire, stirring

Dull roots with spring rain.

Winter kept us warm, covering

Earth in forgetful snow, feeding

A little life with dried tubers.

Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee

With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,

And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,

And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
Bin gar keine Russin, stamm’ aus Litauen, echt deutsch.

And when we were children, staying at the archduke’s,

My cousin’s, he took me out on a sled,

And I was frightened. He said, Marie,

Marie, hold on tight. And down we went.

In the mountains, there you feel free.

I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.

So we are signing TS Elliot or we are moving to the emitrates (the waste land) ;)

This summary is purely todays conversations - the other day's comment from JJ I took as sarcasm ie because thye 2 people mentioned are probably Levy and Lewis who aquayids is very unlikely to know

Yes, now that you said it, it can and probably does read like that. I just took it the other way, probably optimistically thinking investment itk support from JJ = Happydayzzze

Other then Hunterlaar I cannot for the life of me think of any really good strikers we could get. Muller is another (he wants to leave BM) but is probably out of our reach.

There was something on the OS at the same time though.

Sky took their info from a Premiership list which simply said that his contract had not been extended. The OS (if I remember correctly) said he was going for an op and the club would support him eiother as a player, moving into coaching or as am Ambassador of the club

I think AVB could be a master stroke for us and personally cannot not wait to see what he does with an already talented squad - assuming he gets the jobs obviously. He cannot be judged by his time at Chelsea, he went there to rebuild an aging team and instead got forced out my the aging players!

If he is given the chance to build a team to his ethos I think we could all be very happy...only time will tell.

Ah, I see, so it's not 100% but probably fairly likely in the near future. We need Verthongen and Kaboul at CB, a consistent and solid pairing is the cornerstone of every great team.

Didn't Kaboul make some kind of anti-semitic comment about Levy when he was looking to leave Spurs?

Or am I dreaming that?

Either way I don't think Levy would bear a grudge if the possibility to do a deal was there.
