who gives a monkeys about where the show pony bentley will go. or who cares about hutton or bassong really. that does not seel newspapers. harry is a club 2 years and he has made us tronger, better and a pretty proper team for first time in over 20 years so from press , other managers trying to upset the progress only going out and spending money on big name players and developing even more puts an end to their bullshit imo

What I am saying is we are a club that has illustrated ambition and everyone knows we need a top striker (or two) the papers were even talking about us winning the league last year

So why are they not filled with stories linking us to top class strikers and players who can help us push for the title this year instead of talking about how we are going to get raped for our best players as if we have just been relegated?

Personally the paper speculation does not bother me, so long as Levy and the like remain firm with their position they can print whatever. The same goes for ITK on here because although I enjoy it I don't putting any more faith in it than I generally do in the papers stories.

My only point was the press do seem to have an agenda beyond simply selling papers to actually destablise us (they even do the same to Arsenal) yet you rarely see them doing the same to Liverpool for example, even though they have had a worse past two years than we have.

Levy has a tough job, he needs to trim the squad and bring in the marquee signing. With the 25 man rule, you don't want to be stuck with a player who can't play until the next window.

All the time trying to squeeze some money in the the stadium fund.

If he said, sod the stadium, lets blow £100m this window. The fans would go mad, as that would be a massive risk, which may mean we would be out of touch for another 20 years.

I think they are doing it right, getting closer bit by bit.

Maybe us and Arsenal are seen as the easiest targets of the top 6 (and most likely to fall from the current levels). It would make sense as Chelsea and Man City have bundles of cash and Utd don't look like dropping from their position until the red nosed one decides that the lure of wine and racehorses is more than training.

Liverpool do not really worry me at the moment as they are buying a lot of players in a very scattergun kind of way. As a fan it is always nice to be linked to this player and that, with a healthy dose of signings, but I would still rather have our first team than theirs... the clubs at the very top of the financial tree see this giving another reason for their top players not being linked to other clubs - nobody wants them!

I would like a new signing, preferably someone that I have heard of but I didn't know too much about Modric, Berbatov or Sandro before they came to grace our pitch so another one of those £10m to £15m signings may still be very handy.

so we need players out before we have ins...not sure if thats the case. I think its more true we need to shift players full stop, regardless whether its before or after.

but i would suggest we would get £5m each minimum for Gio, Kranky, Hutton, Jenas, Bentley & Keane...let alone the £10m+ for Palacious...that equates to £40m of outgoing talent (and yes i know everyone will disagree with those values straight off the top of my head).

But £40m equates to 1-2 top notch players...not a lot for shifting 7 internationals

I'm not so sure, I think it is purely about them selling papers. Remember the Cronaldo to Madrid saga? 2 summers of it in the papers every bloody day.

The same with Fabregas and the Nomads, and now us again this year with Bale, Modric, Sandro etc...

The press will do whatever they need to do to get the average fan buying their newspaper. The United and Chelsea fans, even the City fan, that I work with are lapping these stories up and practically creaming themselves at the thought of signing our players.

Even when I explain that we don't need the money they still go on about signing whoeveritis for £20M. Ridiculous.

Maybe the press aren't mentioning much about us signing any players because we are quietly going about our business and this may be another reason why the press are repeatedly saying crap about us as they don't like not knowing what is going on.

Would really like to hear some Vucinic ITK.

Except that it would probably be 'he's not on the list' so actually I've changed my mind.

5am and i'm doing this. Crazy. But I just got in from taking the daughter to Gatwick so it's now or when I come out of the sleep/coma I intend to be in very shortly.

Right, lets see...............what ITK was there over the weekend?

Oooh, quite a few snippets, let's start with BEN.....

I love ITK from treeeeees, ITK from trees loves me

Then Archibald on SO

This was regarding Palacios to PSG

Third on the list was ackie with some updates

Doesn't the Sunderland thing tie in with something The Goat said? I'm too tired to check........

Then another update from SO

Then POTL decided not to be TOOOOO cryptic

Just to clarify, POTL replied to a post saying Forlan and Eto'o were at Spurs lodge. He dismissed this with the above post and a no way smiley.

Yesterday began with someone on FTL who has a mate.......

So where do we reckon he's going to lay his hat then? Hampstead or Primrose Hill?

Then another mate, this time the mate of an ITK

The Modric stuff would be totally out of character IMO but then again Football is full of surprises.

Finally SC's Tommo told us that........

This means Newcastle are more interested in signing him than we are. Not which is the biggest club or who he'd rather sign for.

I'd like to know why is it that adverts for Durex Condoms are banned until after the 9pm watershed, yet Tampax see it fit to ruin my appetite every fucking mealtime?

And finally.........History always tells a story.

Which is why you must clear it before the wife uses the internet.

I get that the ultimate goal is to sell papers, but they often create stories out of very little if not nothing (so its not always a case of them simply printing the biggest story they can find, they do seem to actively create stories for the purpose of sparking a reaction)

My question is why do they disproportionatley seem to link our biggest and best away ahead of a club like Liverpool for example? Liverpool have a bigger fan base and perhaps even a bigger rival fan base so larger total base of people who have an interest in their goings ons for better or worse and would want to buy papers to see their news.

The likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Fabregas stories are not fabricated they are born directly out of actually stories i.e. players expressing a desire to leave or Spainish players forcing a Barca shirt on Cesc for example.

It does seem to me (and maybe I am just noticing it more of us because I support spurs....much like someone who thinks the refs are against us because the only real ref decisions that stand out to you are the ones that leave you personally feeling hard done by) but it does seem to me that we as a club have our players linked away without substance for such a story more so than most.

Mid season while we were still flying high in the CL the press were linking Bale with moves to Man City and Inter and there was nothing behind the story other than Bale was performing well and high profile, the same with Modric... even before a Chelsea bid was made and in the open he was being linked to Man U and Chelsea without any suggestion we would want to sell or the player wanted to leave (initially)

It does seem to me like the club love to present us as being above our station and about to fall back into our place, where as they treat Liverpool like a top four club still even though they have been out of it for 2 years and aside from the upturn in form since Kenny returned actually have a fairly weak looking squad and I would suggest are further away from a top four push next season than we are.

I'm saying if making up stories without any real substance was purely about selling papers why not target the bigger clubs who have larger fan bases? i.e. make up more stories about Rooney, Nani, drogba, Lampard and whoever.

I suppose to an extent I have answered my own question, because the bigger fan base clubs like to read positive stories about their team more and of course our players are being linked to said clubs...so the stories could be aimed more at the suggested buyers fans than our own.

Plus our recent history of selling Carrick and Berbatov when pressed obviously gives out the impression to the neutral and none spurs fan that we will sell to a bigger fish (despite the contractual differences at play)

It appears the press' tactic is say all our good players are going all the time, then one day if one of them does they can say they were right.

So far this week Modric, Bale, Sandro and Lennon are going, plus Palacios, Jenas and Krancjar have been linked away!

I reckon the VDV leaving rumours will return this week, once the bullshit about the others fades away to nothing.

Yeah sorry, that is what I meant by selling papers. Those teams combined will have more fans than us and they will want to be hearing about who their team is supposedly signing, as you said.

I know it's been rubbished by the more respected ITk, but I've been told that Forlan was definitely there last week.

Although not signed, because we are waiting on another option (which I am not giving details on!!!).

Also I don't really care if your info has been rubbished by a more respected ITK, as I'm sure it was passed on in good faith mate
