A mate of mine is a Southend fan and has just told me they're in talks to sign Ball from us. Not sure if it's temporary or permanent. Seems a strange move, would have thought he'd go to a Championship club at this point.

He was being heavily linked with Leeds this week.

It makes sense to wait for the dust to settle on any 'special' players, like we did with Van der Vaart. It's good to see that we're finally getting some ITK that we are indeed in for another player to upgrade the first team.

We didn't wait for any dust to settle on VDV. He was a completely opportunistic last minute signing offered to us, after we had enquired about a different player earlier on in the window.

Just going by what Harry said at the time. Seemed like he was too expensive and then off to Bayern but when that fell through he became a lot cheaper because RM needed to get rid.

Way I have heard it a couple of times since is that the deal to Bayern fell through and they called in the morning knowing we had been in the market for an attacking midfielder. VDV was desperate to move because his international place was at stake and it happened very quickly. There was never an intention of signing VDV prior to deadline day from what I understand.
