Who the fuck is prioritising these transfers!

#1 - A FUCKING STRIKER!

I expect all transfers are prioritised at number 1 and are progressed to a point where parties have to go away and discuss.

These are how negotiations for all sorts of deals work. They are not thrashed out in one 'session'.

Jacob's vagueness gets to me sometimes. So the 'storm' reference seems to have been White Storm? But it seems like he's playing the game POTL is accused of - being cryptic to the point where it can apply to anything. Why does he need to say 'star of Real Madrid' when one of the most reputable ITKs has already mentioned the player by name? I don't think he's talking about a 'star striker' or anything. It just seems like we're finally close to signing someone but no one is elaborating, and it does get frustrating.

I wonder if the other "star of real madrid" is Varane on loan? Surely it can't be Benzema...

No-one is prioritising any deal, we have enough people working on transfers that we can bid/work on multiple deals simultaneously. Factors beyond our control in many cases dictate which deals we can and can't complete, and also when a deal finally comes to fruition.

Jacob's info isn't that surprising. We are always going to struggle to attract the biggest players with our wage structure and it's hard to see why players would dramatically reduce their wages to come to Spurs.

That said the wage structure is there for a reason and without a large stadium, and therefore without a huge weekly income, I imagine the structure will always be there.

It's why we need to continue signing the Berbatovs and the Modrics of this world whilst their stock is comparitively low and their wage expectations are sensible. Hopefully next season with the FFP rules wages will generally start to deflate but until then I think we'll need to accept that getting the sorts of players we've been looking at will be very tricky.

I could swear we had iTK at the start of the summer saying the club was going to raise the wage level?

This is the really important part to note. Agents are not stupid, they know a move in this window is realistically the last chance they will have for some time to get their clients outrageously high salaries due to the new FFP rules coming in. So that is probably causing us a much bigger issue than at any other point in time.

I know they're not, just the fact that a striker is our No.1 priority and hasn't been resolved with less that a week until the season starts is a touch concerning, especially after the last 3 windows, know what I mean?

Should have been once bitten, twice shy after the last windows when we fluffed it and in hindsight it did cost us our CL place. I'm just praying lessons have been learnt.

STORM - S------ T----- of Real Madrid? Do go on Stoof...

No we've had lots of ITK on our wage structure that suggests we don't have a cap, we have a pot of wages that we can draw from.

If there are fewer players drawing from the pot, they can all earn more.

If there are more players drawing from the pot, there is less scope to pay 'big wages'.

The pot is put in another pot, which is then put in a hat. This hat is then put into a pot, which is then put into a hat.

Fonejacker FTW.

It was mentioned. But not to a level where paying someone £175k is acceptable.

As I understand it we have a pot for everyone's wages rather than a fixed level. So we can pay one player more but the total wages still needs to stay in budget. The problem is that once we put one player on £100k, the others are going to want that as well which would push us over the budget by some distance.

As Shogun says I think alot of players will be trying to get as much money in wages as possible this window before the regulations come into play and threaten them with reduced wages of a paltry 150k or so.

calling diarra a star or real Madrid is like saying Rose is a star of spurs...it stretching things a bit..good player but not a star.
agreed with others, we don't need anymore midfield players, we require strikers and possible full back...that's it.

Unless he just means star in the sense of just starring in the team occasionally, ie Diarra.

Which would make sense, though would be very anti-climactic

This is one of those bits of info that sounds really stupid but here goes anyway. I was at a BBQ with friends over the weekend and one has just got back from holiday where he met a lad from Wales who claimed to be one of Bale's mates. Now this bit pisses me off but he went to lengths to prove he knew GB by showing my mate photos on facebook and GBs phone number etc (I hope my mates aren't twats like this guy) anyway he told my mate that Bale has no intentions of leaving Spurs at any point. He feels like he owes the club for bringing him on and really likes the lifestyle that he's got at Tottenham. Not bothered by wages etc that he could get as he's happy with the £60k he gets now.

Obviously the guy could (if indeed he is Bales friend) have elaborated on the info but i seem to remember a few weeks ago somebody saying something similar (and my mate is a Utd fan so he wouldn't have just picked this up to WUM me). That's about as close as i'm going to get to ITK but it made me happy to hear so i thought i'd mention it.
