SC are now giving out bans from this thread FREE of charge! To claim your free ban simply make a post telling a largely uninterested world your thoughts on Mason, Bentaleb or whoever! Yes! It really is that easy!

So don't miss out, act now!

Terms & Conditions apply, bans have no cash value, closing date is never, the competition where winners are losers
If the ban doesn't fit me or my lifestyle, can I return it?

When JJ says "one of those frequent ones.." i assume he is just generally referring to a player that could get nicked, read William, or is it actually a player we might have been vaguely linked to with in the past? I am assuming its the former rather then the latter.

Having trouble figuring that out as well.

I read that as frequently linked with - it's ambiguous although probably not intentional.

I assumed he meant those ones we get contacted by agents about, but don't believe the intentions are true - i.e. we're probably being used to lever the player a new contract or better move.

Nah sorry, that's not what I'm talking about at all. Being realistic and being negative to the point of taking the piss out of your own club is VERY different. That's what I've seen on this forum and it's embarrassing.

There is absolutely no reason at all that Gotze wouldn't see us as an attractive prospect. If you don't think so then you and I have a massively different view of our club. I'm not suggesting for one second that we can compete with Man Utd for Paul Pogba but even Vincent Janssen turned down PSG to sign for us and I'm sure there are many fans who would believe that PSG can sign any player in world football. They were after Neymar until very recently and have previously signed world class caliber players.

Let's be honest, those negative fans just take the piss because they don't want to get their hopes up and then see them dashed if the signing doesn't come off. That's fair enough, I get it but I personally choose to be optimistic and I will always back my club if they genuinely want to take a run at the bigger players. We have to have some ambition and trying to sign Gotze is hardly like trying sign Messi or Ronaldo.
Okay I see where you are coming from. I misinterpreted your initial argument

That 2nd post makes me wet. Love how we have moved away from transfer scattergunning, as fun as it was.
2nd post reads like an incredibly naïve post, actually. Wanyama is good, not great. Janssen is a player with 1 year of top flight football under his belt with a club that Jozy fucking Altidore dominated with. Its annoying to me that everone now seems him as some amazing player. Reality is, he could be great butt he could also be a massive flop that we just spent £18m on. Also, lets not kid ourselves. If we didnt have a new stadium to build we'd be spending the same kind of money that liverpool are.

I highly disagree, Poch isn't that kind of manager.

We have brought 2 players of the highest mentality, At this level ability and technique are desirable but the smallest margins are forged in the head as the Chelsea and Newcastle games attest to.

We are a team now, a unit that performs above the sum of it's parts.

So signing a PL and CL defensive midfielder to take some weight off of Dier and bringing the Netherlands number one striker who was the top scorer in the erdevise isn't good enough? Despite them being very good fits for Pochettino's system and both really wanting to play for us.

Some fans need to have a quiet word with themselves

Good job Spurs.

We finalize the deals we seriously need like DM and Striker.
Then the AM we let the preseason and market decide as it is not a priority but a position we could upgrade.
Although Gotze would be great, I think we need more a dribbler than a playmaker. Someone like Mahrez or Boufal. Someone that can unlock tight defenses

How does Wijnaldum fit with that scenario?

Im just being realistic while people here are busy creaming themselves over Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen. Reality is, you dont know how they will turn out. So stop pretending like you do.
