Don't fall for the ol' Sky trick of 'club dropping interest' only to magically resurrect interest later on - around peak time 6pm.

Could be a clever move by our hierarchy... Barkley gets wind that we aren't willing to match asking price, moans at the Everton board about excessive figure on his head, and then we are back in it later in the evening.

IMO if Barkley deal is dead for this window & we get Gomes on loan - that would mean we have addition 25m in kitty to splash for a wide forward.

This is how I see it. Gomes on loan, Barkley for free next summer. Or it's a move to get Everton to reduce their price now.

The former would make more sense though, given RB's injury.

VDV's name was only mentioned 5mins before the window shut in 2010 if I recall correctly. Nothing was mentioned before, albeit a completely different time before twitter.

That was a different situation though if I remember right. Wasn't it something like his deal to go to another club fell through at the last minute so his agent was touting him around in a panic and we jumped at the chance? i.e. the name didn't get leaked because we hadn't actually been pursuing him until the last minute when he just fell into our lap.

Walker(45), Bentaleb(17), NJie(6), Fazio(3), Siggurdson(5), Wimmer(18) = 95 mill

Sanchez(36), Gazz(2), Foyth(8), Serge(23), Llorente(12) = 81 mill

I think this is where we stand now. If Janssen is sold that take profit up to around 35 mill.

I thought we also got something for Paulinho.

The fact we are potentially signing Llorente and thinking about taking Gomes on loan is even more evidence that Pochettino is running the show this transfer window. Those are short term deals with the thought of this season in mind, not the future. These are simply not deals Levy would typically sanction, so I think it bodes really well that Pochettino is going to be pretty happy about the end result if we can get these over the line.

Personally, I think it's the perfect strategy. We have a squad ready to win right now. If we go backwards this season, we're going to lose players and lose momentum going into the new stadium next season. Props to Poch for using his unique leverage over Levy to put footballing considerations first.

Not directed at you personally, but we've had ITK from Hercules (yesterday) that we won't be paying that price for Gray.

I find it frustrating when it keeps getting quoted as gospel.
