J-Rod is effectively worth a couple of million in his current condition, so we would be paying well over the odds for Schniederlin. For that kind of money I'd want a player that really is a stand out talent. Anyway, lets see what the fee really is before we continue the debate

They've all played PL though. Huge difference. They are all proven, I might add.

Transfer valuations have been going up each year. World Cup years especially! Look at the amount Liverpool have paid this summer, a ton of money on several players. If the selling clubs know you're going to be getting a lot of money or already have that money then the valuations go up by just that alone. Several clubs fighting for said players, the selling club may ask for a lot of money to ward off interested suitors. Valuations rise for a number of reasons, but in general they have probably increased with every summer that passes.
