I think there is a difference in replying and joining the off-topic discussion and simply pointing out that a post is off-topic.

If football was played on a games console that would be fine. But that is a midfield three that will get bullied all afternoon if a team comes to defend against us and deny us space. The opposition floods the midfield, playes a 4-5-1 with two very deep lying midfielders and bob's your uncle. Bye bye space.

It's not a midfield though is it? It's an attacking three supported by a two man midfield behind it, they don't have to be particularly strong in the tackle they can harry and lead the opposition on to the defensive mids to win the ball

Besides I don't agree with the idea that smaller players can't get stuck in. Dave Mackay was the hardest player I ever saw and he is 5ft 7 1/2
I'd be more than happy with the likes of Jordy Clasie or Iker Muniain in our team tackling for us. I'm not suggesting that Lamela, Eriksen or Griezmann have their level of tackling but they are still more than capable of pressing and harrying and can put in tackles
Wasn't it Wenger who said Modric wasn't strong enough for the PL. If you look at some of our long term injuries in recent years Eunice, Daws, Hudd, Wilson, Sandro it suggests that you can pick up injuries regardless of size and strength and if anything the more agile can avoid it
Good players will evade the bullying, simple as imo, far better nimble, skilful agile attackers to run rings round slow solid defenders
I know what I would prefer anyway

IMO we lack star quality. Every team above us has 2/3 really top quality players now, and tbh we have none. Eriksen will be if he continues his form, and Lamela will hopefully grow into his potential but right now, we don't really have a star.

Griezmann would've given us this, which is why I wanted him so badly. He's the kind of signing that just boosts morale and mood for months. Look at Arsenal and Sanchez for example.

Oh bloody hell regarding Griezmann.

I know it was fanciful, but this is the sort of player we should be going all out for to compliment the likes of Eriksen. We don't have enough of this level of quality.

100% agreed, not that I dislike schneiderlin, but our priority should be to increase variation balance and quality in the squad. I don't think signing schneiderlin achieves this. At best he is a minor improvement for a position in which we are already well stocked.

Has JJ said anything about Depay? I saw the "in a FM world" post but normally he is quick to deny if no interest and there has been a lot of media coverage in Holland.

I wouldn't count a lack of denying interest as a sign of interest. He also ended the tweet with "#joking".

But that's the whole point, three players all composed, great touch, excellent passing, itelligent, good vision. They can interpass and interchange and having three players with those qualities means they all provide outlet options.
That aside skinny attackers can be far more agile and far quicker to elude tackles. To get the best out of players you need to get the players that fit well around them. I would actually think having Griezann in the mix would make it much easier for both Eriksen and Lamela and likewise having those two would make it far easier for Griezmann to settle in and quickly be effective

It's not tackles they need to be worried about, it's being crowded out and outmuscled all the time. These players have quick feet and plenty of skill but they won't pass opponents easily in the PL unless they get stronger. I personally think it's an unnecessary and risky purchase that we could do with out.

I agree with you to an extent, in terms our settling in...

But in terms of physique, I don't think
Lamela-Eriksen-Griezmann

is physically much different from...
Walcott-Ozil-Carzola

for argument's sake.

Walcott has years of PL experience behind him and a bit of strength. He knows what kind of challenges to expect so he always makes sure he receives the ball in space. As for the other two, they were both much less effective last season than they were the season before(Ozil obviously being at RM not Arsenal). They found space more frequently than I'd expect our line up too, as they play their home games on a much bigger pitch and they had Ramsey behind them who was excellent both running with the ball and without it.

Look, I'm not saying not saying it won't work but I think there's a lot of reasons to suspect it will be difficult. I'm against the deal because it's a lot of money to spend on a player that I don't think offers what we need. It's all very well being able to pass the ball or knock it past a man but players will block them double up and crowd them out whenever possible so I'd rather the money went on defenders or adding experience that I believe we're sorely missing in attack.

Mate I'm very much in for Schneiderlin and would be delighted if we get him, and actually think he plays quicker forward passes from those positions than any of our other options, I think he's key for implementing Poch's style.

But Griezmann would just be a fabulous acquisition, boosting that attacking quality we'd need to really compete this season.

Griezmann IN Lennon OUT
Schneiderlin IN 1 or 2 of Capoue/Sandro/Dembele/Paulinho OUT
Davies IN Rose/Naughton OUT
Vorm IN Sigurdsson OUT
New CB IN Dawson/Kaboul OUT

Would be pretty much the ideal window for a team of our stature. Would require a net spend though so 0.1% chance of happening...

Griezmann is a cracking player and of course I wouldn't say no. But, for once I'd like to see us spend big money on the areas of the field that need it. I'd like to see 20m+ spend on a centre back rather than a flair player.

Griezmann is the very upper level of what is attainable for us right now. As someone once said, "it is better to aim high...." I would be very disappointed if we didn't give it a proper go.

Not only will it boost morale as suggested above but playing wise it will help the likes of Lamela and Eriksen as teams will find it much harder to focus on two wings as opposed to one.
