Peanut on COYS saying Pienaar being loaned out was "Harry's choice."

Fingers crossed we are lucky with injuries, otherwise we'll be asking the ball boys to step up.

Happy with Saha though. Oh and good luck Pav  If only you'd put in the effort you could have been so much better.

Over the course of the last 4 transfer windows, we have spent approximately 25 million pounds on incoming players. Hazard, Remy, and Leandro will all cost that, at a minimum, per player. I would be utterly shocked if we spent that kind of money this summer, as it would be bucking a recent trend that involves us almost exclusively looking for value in the transfer market via loans, youth, players on a free, and out of favor veterans.

As we have seen in the not so distant past, even if we are interested in high level players, there are numerous pitfalls that making signing them almost impossible in the current environment. Someone like Hazard or even, Remy will want huge wages, and there will be multiple clubs chasing them after the Euros. I don't see Daniel Levy paying over the odds for any player after guys like Bentley and Pavlyuchenko completely failed to live up to their price tags (unquestionably the former players above are superior, though, and would do great for us).

I also think the most critical thing at this stage, transfer wise, is for us to finish 3rd (at a minimum). If we finish 4th, we won't see any incoming movement until the last minute, as the Champions League money won't be in our pockets, yet.

The only moves I really would've liked were Samba and Demba Cisse. We could've had Cisse for 9 million, which would have been a swap for Pav. Cisse is much better than Saha and is much younger. He will shine at New Castle, as Freiburg were a terrible team, who gave him little service up front. Again though, that 9 million pounds was probably why we didn't opt for him, as we seem to be building cash reserves (or paying back debt) since the summer sales of Crouch and Palacios.

It does looklike we have decided to go for CL and not push for the title, we will need some luck with injuries but is not all doom and gloom, right back is biggest concer for me. I do agree that we don't have as strong as squad that we ahd yesterday. but we dont know what the impact would have been of having un happy players still with us. except poor old gio

TW = MEH, trending towards Redknapp and Levy are fecking geniuses if Saha stays fit and scores, Kranks doesn't go back to his Mars Bar diet (making the Pienaar move a serious errot), and Nelsen doesn't kill anyone.

But...the doom-mongers = Get a grip, FFS.

Look at what we are doing short term and then salivate over the players we are trying to bring in.
Remy big bid went in today but got knocked back but is good for the summer
verthonghen- lined up
hazard is up to the player but we are in with a really really good shout
Leandro - on again off again every day

The last few windows have been excellent for clearing out and replacing players with cheaper and better players. We want to buy the next superstars not loan them.

:pray::pray::pray:
Isn't it funny that everyone is appluading JJ for being so completely on the ball, and yet when he adds this bit they go into Whine-A-Tronic mode, because Levy is milking the club for profit nad no-one would ever want to join lil'ol'us

We're hardly doomed, but whatever you might think of Pienaar, he's a hard working, reliable player that has always performed well when given a chance.

I really don't see how loaning him out and not bringing anyone in to fill his place is a positive in any way.

What the fuck happened to our squad depth?

He is, and this is the most disappointing aspect of the TW for me, but...hopefullt, Kranks getting himself fit and speaking out before the TW about how much he wants to stay, this time, rather than how much he must move does kinda mitigate. That and THudd coming back, should help.

Saha is a better fit for our system than Pav.
Bassong is low on confidence. And Daws and Kaboul need a leader if Leds and Gallas are out.
Corluka wasn't happy. Slightly strange to loan out Pienaar - but I'm assuming Harry knows the squad better than I do.

None of the other top 5 have strengthened.
We're 13 points ahead of Arsenal!! so we must have some faith in the management.

All of this, but the bold - very good point, and one I was going to make: whenever Kaboul has Ledders (or Gallas) he is brialliant, but whenever he has to play with Bassong they both look lost - and the same applies to Daws tenfold.

Not bothered by not signing any big names or 'only' getting Nelson and Saha in, I'm just a little disappointed that we let Pienaar go, I still think he had something to give to the team to be honest.

Saha managed by Harry = goals

Nelsen has been a very good consistent premiership player for a number of years now he was immense in Hughes' Blackburn side. He's only a backup and if Harry still thinks he can do a job that should be good enough for us. Caulker is back in the summer so no problem there.

Seeing Walker go off tonight is a concern as there is no natural cover (nor at LB really) but we have others who can do a job there like tonight I would say Jake is now the 2nd choice RB and he's done ok there this season.

Shame about Krasic but Niko looked sharp tonight.

Hopefully the whinging kids on here have no more toys to throw around and have fcuked off to bed.

Still 3rd in the league and now 7 off Chelsea and 5 from the Mancs, this is the most important thing today!

(Oh and 13 in front of the scum )

very underwhelming.
Shoot me, but I'm sorry to see Pav go (although it was inevitable), he always had goals in him. Always liked Saha, but can't ever see him being a yiddo, at least not at 33.
Don't understand letting Pienaar go without a replacement. Thought he could have done well, but the cookie never really crumbled for him.
Bassong won't be missed, should do well at Wolves.
But Nelsen - can't understand this one at all. Why?'??

And why are Gomes and Gio still here? Must have been able to have found a home for the Octopus. Hope Gio gets given a chance, but can't see it.

Very strange dealings. I was somewhat dubious with the summer's business, but everything seemed to turn out fine - this time round, however, I'm quite baffled (although our starting 11 remains super fucking strong, and I guess this is the most important thing)

No matter how much the club will try and dress this up that we went for this and that player, at a time when we could have been on the verge of a proper challenge the chairman and the club have let us down.

the only signings we make are two players who are crocks both consistantly injured and well past their sell by date.

Another chance to improve gone begging and a transfer window that we have came out weaker than we went into it.

Levy your transfer policy and miserly ways will probably cost us our place not only as challengers but to be in the champions league next season.

Well done Daniel i hope you are happy counting our hard earned money while we sit and contemplate what might have been if we had a chairman with ambition.

I still can't believe we will get Hazard. He will have Citeh and Chelski all over him as well as possibly Real. Wages will be staggering and we can't compete with that

I'm joking by the way.

*edit* not at welcoming you back SP

I don't think we've gone backwards, but I do think we have weakened the team marginally.

Saha is better than Pav.
Bassong is better than Nelsen (who I'm not even sure has signed).
Pienaar is better than nobody.

Weaker.
