Would everyone be happy going into the season with our current squad and the additions of Villa and Paulinho, or would we expect one or two more signings?

Personally I think there are areas we can improve throughout the squad. I think if Sandro gets injured we'd still be very short, I think we lack options in wide areas and I think there's certainly space for more creative player in the midfield.

But if those two were the only ones to come in I'd be relatively happy.

I think we definitely need at least one more: someone who can play on the wing/wide forward (depending on whether we're going 4-3-3 or not). And if AVB doesn't trust Benny, then we really do need to sell and get someone in there, rather than using Verts as a makeshift.

Townsend and Rose?

Townsend and Rose?

I don't want to derail the thread and get into a debate about whether either of them are good enough...but I don't think they're ever going to be starters for us. Townsend has promise, but i'm still unsure.

Im still not convinced by either!

Well Sunderland got Rose ticking, he was getting rave reviews all over the place last season, and Townsend did well at QPR good enough for back up.

LB= BAE, Rose, Verts
LW= Bale, Villa, Townsend, Siggy, Dempsey

No. We need more brains, guile and intelligence in the final third. It's not the right thread to discuss this in though...

thinking re Villa and what it's like bagging "older" strikers.

How old was Raul when he left RM for Schakalakadoodaas.

Paulinho could cover for Sandro

Add Lamela, I think we should be confident going into games. I think we add quality and not quantity.

can you auto-setup "Bale and/or Villa to score at anytime" on the William Hill app? Would save me a weekly bother of doing it.

About 32 and tbh he didn't really score that many goals.

That's my thoughts with bagging older players especially strikers IMO, such a big ho-ha at the time.

Although Villa is in the Spain team, Raul was out. Villa seems to still "have it" to some extend.

And need i site RVN? signiiiiing!

There are cases for and against, and is a slight risk for fees/wages. But interesting discussions on both sides of this arguement.

I cant see where he says we are not getting Paulinho at all.
What was posted sounds more like an opinion that it could go the same way as Oscar but he doubts that the quotes are true

In a world cup season any player who values themselves will look at 2 things when transfers are in place:
a) Money
b) First team football

Most clubs can offer more money than us.
Not so many can offer regular first team football.
Take Chelsea as a prime example - with a midfield that already consists of Lampard, Hazard, Mata & Oscar, there's no way on earth Paulinho gets anything more than rotation.

He didn't score many goals but he contributed in other ways (on and off the pitch) and had a big influence on everyone at the club. His team mates and fans loved him.

Villa can do all of the above plus score a lot more goals.

I agree! Lets hope Sandro can return to full fitness and doesn't struggle with injuries. The same with Kaboul! Two monster players for us but both with horrible injuries that could end careers.

If we can sign Villa and Paulinho we will have a very strong spine to the team. Lloris, Kaboul, Vert, Sandro, Paulinho, Villa. Those 6 need to start every match if possible to give us a good chance of staying near the top. Obviously Bale will be in the team and personally i'd never leave out Dembele if he's 100% fit and not carrying an injury.

So that's 8 fantastic players that IMO could play for any team in the world.

If we can replace BAE and maybe add 1 more quality attacking/creative player then i honestly believe we can push near the top.
