if we can get benteke for the right price we should go for it. sometimes we forget the human factor in football players. look at vertonghen and see how much he improved after his long time friend join the club. the companionship, the friendship, chemistry of people whom you can connect or talk to plays a huge part in a work place.

even if its a school project, i've always been willing to work harder when im with my best friends or friends i enjoy working with. i can see benteke being much happier here with his belgian friends compared to being in liverpool.

benteke was very very good for aston villa. he was willing to run, strong, good at holding the ball, good in the air, good technique, he is a genuine kane 1 for 1 replacement without having to tweak the tactic.

against weaker cb you drop kane to number 10 and suddenly we become an insane aerial threat in set pcs with dier, toby, vertonghen, benteke, kane.

if kane is tired or in cup games we can field benteke and the team plays the exact same way

it would be stupid not to take him if hes available at the right price
He doesn't have a great technique, he is a problem in build up play because his passing isn't good enough so our tactics would have to change. He isn't a Kane replacement, he's been dropped by Liverpool cause he is deemed not good enough. We don't cross the ball so his aerial threat isn't much of an issue, you don't buy players simply because they are good at corners. He cost Villa a League Cup final because of poor finishing and against Arsenal at Wembley he simply gave up.

"Could argue", well if the amount in a row is your measurement Vardy just broke the record this year, so it's Vardy then.
The original argument was lukaku was the best striker in the Prem 'right now'. Understand what that means? Doesn't mean he's a better player than Kane or will be or we would rather have him ect ect ect. Jeez

Your argument still doesn't make sense. You haven't stated what metric you're using that says Lukaku is better than Vardy "right now".

And why are you bringing up Kane?

I get that there isn't much ITK about right now but I feel like there's better places to argue about who's better between Lukaku and Vardy.

This debate calls for an experienced pair of eyes from the scouting management community, so let's defer it to Spursking. He'll know what to do.

Makes me smile now how many people were saying that we shouldn't go in for Chicarito last summer as a back up as MP likes him and he's not good enough for us.
His goals could have put us top? Particularly thinking of key games where we've drawn and missed chances & games where Kane looked shattered/going off cost us (e.g. Stoke). If there's one thing we've come to learn it's to trust MP

Absolutely true. I was hoping we get him but somehow it did not materialise. What happen to this deal? He didn't want to come?

Took too long to decide. Levy was keen, but AVB not convinced. Benteke set a deadline on moving himself because he wanted to focus on the season to make sure he made the Belgian WC squad.
In that case AVB was more of an idiot than I had previously imagined. And before seeing @Trix 's post I had AVB down as quite a substantial idiot indeed.

To be fair, if, as ITK suggests, Berahino was and still is Pochettino's first choice pick for a striker signing, then attribute-wise I don't really see what he offers that Javier Hernandez doesn't, aside from having fewer miles on the clock.

Berahino- if he is the player Poch wants - should be the first choice. He will be cheaper and easier to get (IMO) as he has been bobbins this season and is closer to the end of his contract than in the summer.

2nd choice needs to be identified - can't see Benteke being prepared to be backup and he would be very expensive (someone cheaper would be justifiable - unless Kane breaks his leg and we're stuck with Njie - a man who struggles to cope with standing up, let alone leading the line).

Personally don't think think they are similar at all.

Just because he is scoring a lot in a different league (where Salomon Kalou only has 2 less) playing upfront in a 2 with a target man doesn't mean we were wrong. I doubt he would have been effective as a lone striker, in place of Kane and I seriously doubt he would have pressed in the manner required of Poch's team. If he didn't play with Kiessling and played as a lone striker, he wouldn't be anywhere near as effective IMO.

Actually, Chicharito and Kiessling haven't played that many games together, and Hernandez has done just fine without his German comrade in the lone striker role.

Regardless, your point is true that we've no idea how he'd have fared with us in the Prem.

if we only want a plan A we should be looking for a Kane Clone. If. As many on this forum have suggested Pocky doesnt have a plan B. Then surely we should be looking for something different to Kane?? So he can change a game if it isnt working?

Plan b is the fluid interchanging of Son, Lamela, Eriksen, Njie etc - like we saw very effectively against Monaco and Qarabag.

I'd like a Kane-clone. Which is why Dembele and perhaps Afobe interest me most.

Another wing forward like Berahino, or a non-mobile target man like Benteke, just don't help in either situation.

That might be your idea of plan B but that doesn't mean in the long term it is MP's.
