I just think the stadium is something for them to hide behind to be honest,

- We were looking to build the stadium years ago and plans got delayed for an age, surely we saved in that time
- The TV money has no come in, the sheer amount it's increased was likely not a factor in play when we began the journey of building the stadium
- We got into the champions league and everybody, Levy and Poch included have harped on that we are ahead of schedule, therefore the champions league money cannot have been factored in, why haven't we used it.

my point being: FUCK

They won 2 FA cups and bought ozil and Sanchez from real and barca both in their prime.

It's just that wenger has got some of his other player recruiting wrong and doesn't seem to be able to get the tactics and motivation right like he used to. Arsenal are in as good a shape as any club now with that stadium, they just are a bit stale as wenger has been there too long in my option.

If we get the new stadium and turn over bigger profits I really can't see us not starting to spend big. You guys clearly have no idea how much it's costs to build a new stadium and training ground these things will set us up for years and years rather than spending big on a player and then not moving forward off the pitch.

Swings and roundabouts.
That having said if Chavski get Sissoko there is something wrong there we should have enough funds for that given how many players we've sold!

We could have billions upon billions in the bank but we'd still only look for under market value signings

We have a great squad, manager, traning facility and are building a new stadium. Qualified for the CL so he is doing a great job in my book. Makes it even better that we don't run around at spend an insane amount on players. We should be proud.

Looking at revenues / funding alone we're well behind these clubs:

Man C
Chelsea
Man U
Arsenal
Liverpool

So 'par' for us would be 6th. And yet we've finished 3rd, 4th and 5th repeatedly. Whilst balancing books and funding a new world class training centre and a new stadium. I'd say Levy has us punching above our weight. And that in a few years we'll be more attractive and a better proposition for players and sponsors than Chelsea and Liverpool. Great job mr chairman. If I look back and analyse how we went from a big 5 in the 80s to a mid table in the 00's I blame Scholar and Sugar for their disastrous tenures. I think it took Levy quite some time to figure it out but he did figure it out and as a result we're a fantastically run club.

Thing is though our best eleven for this season are all players who were here last season. We haven't signed a player who makes our team better than last season. Considering we are in the champions league that is shocking.

I'd hope every one of our first eleven will be better than they were last season.

Keeping a good team together with minimum disruption, adding a few to allow a little variation and cover; I really don't want much more than that. I want to see how good this lot really can become.

I hope they all do improve, time will tell on that one. I just hope in nine months time we are not regretting this window.

Made that point before makes you wonder what would happen if we didn't get CL football or the TV deal never came in, would the stadium have suddenly collapsed, I doubt Levy would have been that reckless.

Same as you I think it is an excuse.

Well I posted earlier in this thread that Levy has obvious flaws and outlined it, got ignored and everybody decided to continue to say how flawless he is and how he's the master of getting deals over the line. People see him as faultless and I can't for the life of me understand why.

Yeah he has done extremely well but if he could palm his ego off during the transfer window we would have even greater success, we'd of probably of had a few more champions league campaigns too.

Now ask yourself how an amazing stadium has done for Arsenal and if their fans would rather success on the pitch with a buying policy thats fit for purpose..

Ask yourself what we would have achieved if we spent even +£20 million net per season instead of -£5 million over the last five years..
Since they finished paying for it they've started spending £35m+ on transfers, pay among the highest wages in the league, have won the FA Cup twice and jachieved their highest league finish for a long time. That they're not doing better is down to Wenger.

I'll wait until I see where my new season ticket seat will be in the new stadium, before passing judgement.

What's better?
1) Fund the stadium mainly through medium term debt like Arsenal did with theirs and have a longish period of austerity once we move.
2) Take advantage of the unbelievable bonuses that have materialised, continue with business as usual and put all of the unexpected funds towards paying for the stadium up front, in turn enabling us to immediately double our wage budget when the new ground opens.

It's the £150k+ p/w wages that attract top players, not CL or trophies or whatever - this has been shown time and again in the Premier League.

It is funny that this thread, and the 'standing still' one which was busy all week, all of a sudden died out last night.....

Transfer junkies got their fix.
