Surprised more wasn't made of Mina over-celebrating his goal, according to the rules he should have been given a yellow card for delaying the restart of kick off, I suppose that would have been petty from the ref though, no one wants to see players sent off for silly things but I think he would have got booked had he not been booked already.
Just one of the many things the ref let them get away with.

Laughable how through all that penalty debacle (stalking the ref and Kane for 3 minutes, scuffing up the spot not leaving the area) how the only one he booked was Henderson.

My old man is (not a dustman) travelling back from Germany during our Quarter final and was asking me if there's anyway of watching the game.

They have free wifi on the trains.

Just wondered if there are any good apps that would make it possible for him to watch as i know he's gonna be pestering me otherwise during the game.

I have ruled out Iplayer as no proxy. He has a decent phone and tablet (both android)

Just get a trial of NordVPN from the Play Store. Very easy.

Actually, I was able to access iPlayer in Germany a few months ago due to new EU laws mandating conpanies allow you to access streaming while abroad. I don't know if it includes live streaming though.

Assumed it was on the beeb as ITV had the last game.

I will tell him that it's just he's not the most tech savvy so the more things needed to do the more time i'm likely to spend explaining to him what to do.

Pretty sure TVCatchup has no geoblocking...I just tested it from a US VPN and it works fine, better get him to test it whenever he can from Germany in case of any issues.
Saves pissing around with VPNs and stuff.

Its only SD but i think thats probably the best you're gonna get without getting technical.

Unpopular opinion: I thought the ref in the Colombia-England match had a good game. Much of the criticism of him is accompanied by the usual anti-US bullshit we always hear whenever it comes to soccer. But I don't think it's fair.
On the head-butt, first, fans consistently complain that it's a physical game, and then moan when a red isn't shown. Can't have it both ways. .s.

That makes no sense mate. It's not aussie rules, its football. People rightly point out it's a physical game for normal challenges and shoulder barges, not for headbutts, elbows and stamps etc.

Anti American bias for football? I've only ever heard the opposite and people wanting the sport to take off in the states. I certainly do as it makes it even more exciting as a global sport.

This particular ref was out of his depths and was drowning in player idiocy. He should have made his mark early on to prevent the likes of Falcao screaming in his face.

Who knows, that game may well make a proper ref out of him.

Pretty sure you can download the ARD or ZDF Apps on a uk Store for free, then whilst in Germany the content will work fine. (Just like bbc and ITV players are available to download anywhere but live content is only available when in UK).

Commentary will be in German of course.

As for the ref...
He was pretty lenient and after the penalty decision should have controlled things better.

I would also like to see retrospective action brought in against teams for not controlling their behavior/looking to cheat.

Including the scuffing of the penalty spot, which is an actual act of cheating.

As for the headbut, that was a VAR ref decision, which though should have been deferred to the on pitch ref to review, rather than give “impartial” advice.

Interestingly I was just reading the article above (at work, bored) and is had this snippet on the end:

Meanwhile, England's quarter-final opponents Sweden are likely to be better acclimatised than England, going into their World Cup clash in Samara, according to Sky Sports News.
Sweden have selected a training base in Russia where temperatures are on average 10 degrees higher than at England's Repino headquarters.

Samara is about 1,200 miles south-east of Repino, and temperatures pitch-side for the afternoon game are forecast to be over 30 Celsius.

Sweden are based in Gelendzhik where temperatures have ranged in the last few weeks between 26-29 Celsius, while England have been training in Zelenogorsk, seven miles from the team hotel in Repino, where temperatures are currently 18 Celsius, and fell as low as 12 Celsius in the lead up to the Colombia game.

Seems like a good approach by Sweden, wonder why we haven't thought to do that?

I believe I read somewhere before the beginning of the tournament that the staff preferred to have a location where the players could escape the heat and live and train properly without feeling tired by the constant heat.

It does but I don't know if the EU rules cover live stream or just on demand (I watched a show on demand and it worked without a VPN while I was in Germany). NordVPN is the easiest to use (and the best) just press connect and it works!)

iPlayer/ITVplayer will definitely not work in Germany. iPlayer spots and blocks VPNs better than anyone too, so I wouldn't waste time on that either.

As mentioned above ARD and ZDF apps will be free and work fine with decent wifi.

I live in Hamburg. Amazon and Netflix and all the other pure streaming sites followed the new EU rules that kicked in a couple of months ago. BBC, ITV, C4 didn't and as far as I know broadcasters who stream stuff online don't have to.

It would be nice for me if they did, but they don't. As I said, even with a VPN BBC will spot it and block most of the time.
