I'm sorry but i just can't handle a season of Doherty as our starting RB. I hope that's not what it comes to.

And use Gil and Moura as super subs for pace.

Tbh though it's real not clear what's happening. We're stacked at LWF but weak at RWF. We have exciting prospects at LB/LWB but are unexciting at RB/RWB unless Docherty recaptures his Wolves form. There are some huge "if's" currently with our fullbacks.

We don't know whats happening with Kane and whether Son will play on the left or end up being our main striker with a new signing as back-up. Gil looks too good to bench but won't get in front of Son if he stays at LWF. We could try Son at RWF but you'd potentially be fucking with the magic sauce of last year and there's no sign of it from pre-season yet.

We're apparently signing Tomiyasu as a right-back and he's most similar to Tanganga, suggesting we could play a defensive right back. That then would make Aurier and Docherty redundant. I really don't like these 'wonky' line-ups, if they're the best way to get the best out of the squad then fair enough but I wouldn't purposefully design a wonky system in a rebuild. It's like a one footed striker, if they bang goals in then so what but you wouldn't ideally have a one-footed striker. If Tomiyasu is being signed for RCB rather than RB and we'll keep the RWB's then it's still not ideal as neither Docherty and Aurier, on recent form, are top class attackers and we're already a little light at RWF.

In the middle Skipp and Hojberg would be great pairing but at the same time N'dombele and Lo Celso are potentially our most talented midfielders and they probably need a three man midfield to get the best out of them. If you play a two man pivot with Skipp and Hojberg, they don't have like for like replacements if you want to keep the same system and just rotate players in and out (and I like that kind of thing). If we play a midfield 3 with Skipp and Hojberg rotating in the DM position, we probably need one more quality CM to rotate with Lo Celso, N'dombele and Alli. Perhaps Winks or an academy prospect like John or White can cover that for the moment.

And then another sale or signing or two could change the whole balance again.

Biggest difference in my team compared to others is that I think we need a CDM more than a COM, as I think between Dele, Lo Celso and Ndombele we should have the creative spark needed, and furthermore, I would like to see Højbjerg as more of a box-to-box midfield like he was for Denmark at the euros.

Other than that, I agree with many that Aarons would be a great attacking right back for us, and I have chosen a more experienced CB partner for Romero.

Outgoings:
Hart
Lamela
Alderweireld
Sanchez
Winks
Sissoko
Aurier
Carter-Vickers
Clarke (loan)
Rose
Gazzaniga
Foyth

Waiting for some controversial comments, and frankly it's hard putting players into fixed positions, but this is my take based on the following:

  • Kane gets sold so we need to invest
  • I'd love to give Dele a first team role, but he need some serious competition in that spot, so for me a Coutinho deal (could be loan) would be the way to go
  • Yes I want Damsgaard and Gil even they both kind of play the same position. Not sure what formation fits them both into the first team, but frankly we need strong competition and signing both gives us a strong chance one of them becomes a star player for us soon
  • I'd see Ings starting off for us as first choice with Vlahovic finding his feet over the first few months

Milinkovic Savic is a box to box midfielder not a defensive midfielder. Also Lazio want 90m or something so unless Kane is sold we couldn't afford him. He'd be a dream signing though!

I want to give Ruud Dele a chance before writing him off but Damsgaard is definitely there as the long-term AM prospect.

I'd also give him a chance but from the bench, as a starter, he doesn't justify that for me. Anyway won't derail the thread!

He’s so bad, I have no idea what people have seen in him for him not to be an instant get rid this summer

Guess its just the hope he is now playing under a coach where it really worked out for him before. And that we have another RB that we want to get rid of.

10 days until the start of the season and, as it stands officially, our squad is weaker than last season.

Hoping for some major announcements soon.

Guess I chose a good bad example then. ? But did think he was often used on the center of the pitch, but his physicality makes him seem fit for CDM. But perhaps the traditional CDM is being outphased anyway, could see Skipp and Højbjerg start together, and the two of them rotate between staying back and going forward.

I think I'd rather have Vlahovic, Ings, Damsgaard, & Lacroix than Kane.

A little worried about how little time we’ve got left. The season starts in less than two weeks, less than a month in the window, and we still need - per most of these lists - at least five more in.

I just think our right hand side still looks so poor with Doherty and Lucas, this has to be improved surely .

I’m just surprised more hasn’t been done about RB. I know they apparently see Tomiyasu in that position but he’s (1) not here yet and (2) likely won’t step in right away.
