Think of Klopp's best Liverpool side - with attacking full-backs that bomb forward and three box-to-box / defensive midfielders:

Lloris

Traore
Romero
Dier
Reguilon

Skipp
Hojbjerg
Winks

Diaz
Kane
Son

Traore at FB is obviously a risk and it would represent a deviation from Conte's three at the back...but it would be a great to watch lol

Out of interest, how much would Champions League footy be worth to the club? You'd think it would dwarf the cost of signing a couple of quality players right now.

Sooo, who are we going to put in the RWB slot in our wishlists now?

In terms of quality I like the following:

Dest or Mazroaui - Barca are being linked with the latter on a free. Maybe the former is available? If Barca can't afford the former then we should push for the latter.

Joachim Maehle - Plays for Atalanta and Denmark.

All three would be ideal for a Conte system, and likely cheaper than Lamptey now or the summer.

The answer is Lamptey

everyone will put him in their wishlists

I'm kind of done with us going for players like Kessie, Ndombele, Traore, and having either nothing to show for it or ending up with unmotivated players who don't really care about the team or anything beyond the next paycheck. So here is a "very gettable XI" based solely on highly-rated, young players available for a good price, who would see Spurs as a step up and come in to the league with something to prove.

The point is not that we should go out and sign these exact players. Moreso that there are plenty of options out there of a similar stature to what Dembele, Vertonghen, Modric, Dele, Eriksen, Wanyama, Bale, Alderweireld, Sigurdsson, Sandro, Son, Lloris etc. were when we signed them. Undoubtedly our best signings of the past odd decade. It saddens me that we don't seem to even go in for this type of player anymore.

In fact, have we really been successful with any signing at all that cost more than 30m?

I'd love us to try and tempt Leeds with a similar bid to what we offered for Diaz. PL proven and would be perfect for us. I'm sure he was linked to Bayern for circa £35m before they gave Coman a new deal.

De Ketelaere is another that looks good. Only issue is that Conte seems to want more pace in the side and he isn't that.

Morata on loan sounds like a stopgap option.

I guess the alternative is to use the higher fee on an attacking RWB or a creative #8 and fully commit to the 3-5-2 with Kane, Son, Lucas and Bergwijn as the attacking options.

Posted elsewhere and on Twitter but for RWB:
Dest, Pol Lirola, Frimpong, Lamptey

Attacking player: Berardi, Nkunku, Raphina, Charles DK

Now that Diaz is off the table I hope we at least sound out a few more options. I thought Dest wanted to be moved on by Barca. Lamptey, I know is one for Summer but I'd be tempted if Dan Burn leaves to give them Rodon plus cash for Lamptey.

I'm shocked there hasn't been ANY links with Berardi. I know he's older (27) but the guy is in the top 5 goal scorers in Serie A, and also leading the league in assists. He plays RF and can cover at ST, making him a perfect option in our front 3. Nkunku would be expensive but I think the Diaz money would be on par with an offer for him!

Raphina I doubt would ever happen, but again I'd be tempted to test leeds with some of that Diaz money since he's PL proven.

343

Son/Gil - Kane/Bergwijn - Berardi/Lucas
Regulion/Sess - Skipp/Winks - Hojbjerg/Amrabat - Dest/Emerson
Davies/Tanganga - Dier - Romero/Sanchez
Hugo/Gollini

Lamptey will have far more attractive propositions in the summer. They always do. If you want a player, you go for them immediately with an acceptable offer. See Vlohovic, Lautaro, Diaz, etc. You wait for the summer to not upset a relationship with an opposing chairman, you will lose out again & thoroughly deserve to. But hey it’s the friendly relationship what counts!?

I actually compared potential RWB targets in a post and on Twitter yesterday (I believe in the Lamptey thread - probably should have posted it here) based on their FBref data.

I know it's just data and it doesn't tell the full story but when you rank them 1-8 in each category and then take the average rankings by section (Output/xOutput/Shot Creation is one category, Dribbling/Ball Carrying/Ball Passing is one category, Defending is last category) I found that Lamptey ranked 5th of the 8 potential targets in EVERY section.

Now I've seen him play and he passes the eye test, but the only reason I think we should move for him at the inflated English Premium price is the fact that he's HG and PL proven. But I'd have some concerns at the quoted price with his injury history, which is why I'd feel better if we could do a swap plus cash with Rodon.

Hey mate, saw the analysis on twitter and thought it was great.

Out of curiosity who would your preferred choice be based on the stats and quality if league opposition the stats are being produced against?

I agree with your previous post about a forward, Raphina would be the dream but very unlikely imo.

Would Leeds turn down £50m for Raphinha? Should just give them the Diaz money.

We could probably sweeten the deal with a few players also.

He'd be my number 1 choice for the RW position.

It's funny I'm from the United States and have watched Dest a bunch and obviously am a fan of his but never really watched him for Barca. I tend to think a lot of US players get overhyped since we have a decent young squad now a days. Dest hasn't played started since December 8th at Barca and I'd be making a move for him, his attacking output is great, but his defensive qualities are a bit worrying. It'd be funny and a surprisingly good balance between him and Emerson (both at Barca in the past) since Royal has good defensive statistics.

If I were FP I'd go: 1. Dest 2. Pol Lirola 3. Lamptey 4. Frimpong

I have Lamptey 3rd just based on his inflated price point and injury history. I think you could get the other three for cheaper and the risk probably equals out due to them adjusting to a new league. We need a RWB that can dribble past a man and all 4 of them average over 1 per match, while Doherty and Emerson average under - I think that's a key metric.

No problem at all, love the detail.

Would be a great signing but I feel Leeds would hold out considering they are in a relegation fight and he's the only one who looks like he can drag them out of it.

Yep.

Him or Antony could easily fill that role on the right to give us great balance in attack. They both cut inside, have creativity and skill to perform the role.

If this club are serious then we should be willing to spend big in this role.

I think an alternative CF is important but now that Vlahovic is off the table we don't need to go out and spend huge amounts on this player, so why not spend huge amount on the creative player?

If I'm FP here I'd:

1. Take Luiz money and offer a sweet deal for him at Leeds. If they don't want it, so be it, but he plays off of the right and is PL proven.

2. If no there, I'd offer the same amount for Nkunku at RB Leipzig. They're out of CL and could be tempted with a big offer. He's played off the right, left, ST, CAM and CM which would help in our squad.

3. If no there, I'd probably try for Charles DK since he's one of the next best "sure" things (unless he comes to us, then he'll sputter out hahaha)

4. If you want experience, goals, creation, and more win now mode - go for Berardi. First in assists in Serie A, in the top 5 for goals in Serie A. Plays off of the right, and doesn't seem overly expensive? No clue why he's not linked with a move away since Sassulo is midtable
