We're not getting Willian for £20m. Shit, we're haggling over £1.5m for Holtby who we bought on a free. There's no way we're breaking our club transfer record (by a large sum), in January, on a #10. Not when Levy already bought Dempsey and Gylfi for that role.

I don't think we will get Willian either...but the reason we're hagging over the transfer fee with Schalke is because we CAN. It's not that we don't have the money. It's because we're in a good negotiation position and if we can save a few bucks..why not?

Its very unlikely we will get Willian IMO, but this reasoning always irks me a little (not aimed at you mate, but I've seen this a lot) Deals are valued on their own individual merits, taking a host of variables into consideration, regardless of the potential 'size' of the deal. In other words, you don't just pay somebody whatever they're demanding instantly because its not a particularly high priced deal. I could never envisage Levy abandoning his rigid business principles - no matter what deal he's working on for any amount. We/he have a business image to protect and maintain and that sets a dangerous precedent for future business.

Understood. We have the money for Holtby. We also have the money for Willian, but that doesn't men it's gonna be paid. We haggle because that's his way. It has it's pluses and minuses.
We flat out are not spending £20m+ on a single player. It's not the Tottenham way.

The values being bandied about suggest Schalker originally wanted £2m. If we get him for £1.5m that's a reduction of 25% which is very good business.
People certainly wouldn't be arguing about us trying to haggle for that 25% off if the initial valuation was £20m for Willian.
It's a bit like saying you'd be happy to pay £3 for a Dairy Milk if someone offered it to you. It's not a lot of money but it's still a ridiculously high price.

Ah I see. I got an email from an old friend that said he had a mate who works with Lloyds banking group, in the corporate deposits accounts dept, and he was told that THFC have a deposit account containing £XXX mil. The interesting thing is he said that 1.4 mil had been withdrawn....
