"Wigan v Man City
This could be a tough game for City. They've had a lot of players away in far-flung places this week so tiredness could be a factor. This is why you shouldn't have all the "world class" foreigners in your squad. You wouldn't have caught the likes of Michael Ball, Darius Vassell and Paul Dickov swanning off on international duty would you?
Verdict 1-1"

"Tottenham v Stoke
I have a lot of time for Stoke. They play football the way it's meant to be played. With a grim look of determination present at all times and vast range of passing. And by vast, I mean long.
However I think they'll struggle against Tottenham's British spine of King, Jenas and Keane.
Verdict 2-1"

"Wolves v Portsmouth
A lot of people would struggle to work up any enthusiasm for this match, but not me. I'm not even going to try.
Verdict 1-2"

Back on topic:

Tottenham v Sunderland
Spurs will be disappointed after losing badly to Arsenal last week but it just underlined the gap that remains between them and the top four.
Sunderland have had some great results against the big teams although they have blipped recently which will be driving manager Steve Bruce mad.
They've really suffered from the loss of injured Lee Cattermole and they'll struggle to get any points at White Hart Lane.
Verdict: 3-1

The loss against Arsenal reallyunderlined the gap between us and Arsenal on that day, at their stadium, and with three of our best players out. The league table is a better comparison between us and the big 4. At the moment we are ahead of one of them, having beaten them on the first day of the season, and a win on Saturday could put us into the elite group.

Sure the gap would have been closer at our place with Luca Modric .

Looking at the way Arsenal's first team performances have improved as this season has gone along I can't help but feel they are stretching the gap wider .

Their Carling Cup side play in just the same way as their league side .

Our progression as a side depends on beating the sides we should beat and the teams around us like Villa , Everton , Man City and hopefully Liverpool too .

Right. My main point was that Arsenal are not the big 4. They are certainly one of the top 3/4 sides in the country, but the big 4 also supposedly include Liverpool. We are some way behind Arsenal, Chelsea and United, but at the moment you can't say we are that far behind Liverpool. Lawro's comment was, in my opinion, quite inappropriate considering the relative form of the 4th member of the top 4.

Lawro's reaction was completely knee-jerk just like Lineker's. Ridiculous. It was just one game, at their place, missing our best 3 forward players who are probably 3 of our 5 best outfield players.

If they think it's more fundamentally obvious than one game then why didn't they say it before the game instead of after ?

Hmm exactly........

I do think that Woolwich are ahead of us but not by a country mile as some would have you believe. At this moment in time it's difficult to argue that Liverpool are better than us in terms of League position and squad and Lawro knows that. They've been shite without Gerrard and Torres - we've been poor without Modric and Defoe and for one game Lennon

This week's verdict from the bindipper:

Tottenham v Wigan
You are never quite sure what you are going to get with Wigan this season and they have turned into a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde side.
I reckon with Tottenham at home and Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane all available they will be too strong for Wigan.
Verdict: 2-0

I think he might be on the money with that. Martinez has done a good job with a side that lost key players and were being tipped for the drop on here, but he doesn't seem to like to park the bus, and that can only be in our favour.

Shows you how much attention the scouse lover really pays. We were shit for 60 mins at home to Sunderland with Defoe, Crouch and Keane all playing. The returning Aaron Lennon is a much greater factor but gets no mention.

Oh and Dave Pundit says this:

Tottenham v Wigan
Poor Robbie Keane will still be smarting from the France game but he's a strong solid Brit so I expect him to play with a stiff upper lip and I'm willing to bet that lip will get him a hatful of goals.
Verdict 4-1

I think there's a modicum of sarcasm there (that Irish Ireland stiker Keane who was born in Ireland and plays for Ireland is British)

Here are this week's pearls of wisdom from the Oracle:

Aston Villa V Tottenham
_46810147_villa_tott_0506.gif

This is the battle of the pretenders.
Villa dropped points at Burnley last week, while Tottenham had an unbelievable 9-1 win over Wigan.
It's going to be close, but being as Villa are at home I'll go for Martin O'Neill's side.
Verdict: 2-1

Oh well, looks like we drop to 12th in the "Lawro table"

Unsurprisingly Liverpool are 2nd and 9 points to the good over reality in The Lawro Table...

His little summary and his score verdict seem to have no link at all. "Last week, Villa very nearly lost to Burnley and Tottenham very nearly broke a record for the highest win in Premiership history. Therefore, Villa will win."

I'm not saying I completel disagree with the score, as it will be a tough game at Villa Park. It just doesn't correlate at all.

Its meant to be tongue in cheek from the idiot. He's implying both teams are so unpredictable and the "pretenders", one week we're awesome, the next we're average. Hence the predicted score.

Hope we prove him wrong.
