I'm fairly certain we are still able to apply at least a modicum of salt to these claims. But if we are to take them as gospel now and walk in lockstep I trust that I will be informed of any transgression.Thing is, according the ITK, there were no takers for the players Spurs wanted out and Poch didn't want a "congested" squad as he knows how bad that can be for the team spirit.
Besides, if the takers had paid up most probably both Llorente and Sissoko would have been sold
And since this explanation was retrospective instead of predictive I choose to utilize the last few flavor enhancing grains here. If there was intention to bring someone in then players would have been told they "weren't in his plans" and been looking for a move all summer just like the previous years.
But my bigger point was not about just last year as much as every one of the previous years. Folks want to hold on to players because of emotional attachment instead of ability/performance. There are some, for which it will not be popular, that need to be moved on. For example, now everyone realizes Tripps is gar... more diplomatically let's say questionable defensively but some of us have been banging that drum for a while. Hell, I could probably name 10 that need to be moved on but a whole summer clearout is silly and disruptive.
My point was each year 1 or 2 players need to be moved on and improved upon. This is not sorcery this is succession planning and marginal gains. Fergie even made this point to Poch in respect to his ManU teams and player competition. And another example is the New England Patriots. Tom Brady jsut won another SB yet his coach wanted move on from him 2 years ago. That's right, 2 years ago under the belief that it is better to move on too early than too late. There is a reason why he is the greatest coach ever, they are the greatest dynasty ever, and they are often the less talented team on paper but always win the big one.
...Rondon...inexpensive, available and would jump at the chance to play CL, great teammate, quality lone CF, would accept bench role as he has previously, significantly better and more dangerous than given credit for, more athletic and technical than most recognize, works his ass off and is a PITA to any CB.Quite a few names have been brought up as Kane's understudy but no young, talented CF with ambitions are going to join Spurs unless he's paid "silly" money, simply because they know's there's no way they're gonna play much with Kane almost have a birth-right to be Spurs' CF starter.
And quality CF costs a lot,
Sonny can't play WF minutes and CF minutes. Choosing to bring in Llorente wasn't a silly idea but the way we play with is not the best match now because we have NO midfield control of games like we did previously. So since he gets no service it looks like a bad match. Rondon can get around the pitch and has knocked a fair few in this year in another defensive setup.
